What size battery for a 240z

OK Guys, I have a few questions. Currently I have the standard size battery in my 240z which works fine but is heavy for track work. I want to put in a smaller/ lighter battery but I want to know how small I can go.

 

I think the standard batteries have about 500-600 CCA

 

Any suggestions?

 

Whats the smallest number of Cold Cranking Amps someone has successfully run in a Zed without having issues (Apart from the battery aging)?

Buy a Gel Cell battery.....

I'm using a "Pulse" gel cell battery (Odyssey brand knock off) which is only around 250-300 CCA and weighs about 7 kilo's and mounted low behind the passenger seat. Great for what I need, plenty of capacity for a start but because of the EFI, it starts quickly. Might be an issue if you run triple carbies etc. Another member I know runs the same battery with Webers and I haven't heard any bad news. I also keep the car on a trickle charger most of the time so it's almost fully charged before I start.

I don't worry about changing the battery, I use the same battery as in my BF ute, makes it very easy to swap over at hillclimbs as I use an underdriven alternator pully so generally don't the charge I need during an event and flatten the battery over the course of a couple of days starting with short runs.

 

I also find the standard location for the battery a nice safe location and the weight, whilst a little high in the car does offset me a little as well.

Main reason for my battery location change was just to keep the battery away from the heat; heat kills everything..
