Hi All,

Took the Z out for a run today and towards the end nearing home there was a louder fan noise from the front of the car than normally as i revved the engine in neutral and driving, any ideas on what that could be?

Thanks

If you are running the standard thermo clutch fan I would put money on the clutch mechanism or bearings being on the way out. The best solution id not to bother with repair or replacement but to fit an electric fan. Ebay can be your friend witha  set of ford fans from and EF throughto Au easily found for around $40 and a thermistor, hope that's right, switch from Shit and Shiny for about the same to sort you out.

I had a similar problem a few months ago, engine was ok at idle but sounded like it had a small super charger on it at revs. Was the alternator bearings, I'd suggest checking bearings as other have already.

Thanks for reply guy's. Motor is RB30 with RB25DE head, if it's the fan clutch will the fan spin easily by hand in either direction? not sure if it runs a viscous coupling fan.

Sometimes that viscous coupling clutch seizes on so the fan turns at engine speeds making it louder than it should. If you try to turn it while the engine is OFF! if you can't, there's your problem! Normally, they can be rotated in either direction.

If it spins really freely when spun by hand (5+ish rotations) when the engine is cold fan coupling needs a rebuild.

It should spin up fast on start up, and slow down after a 5 minutes.

Well it turned out to be the fan, ordered new one should be done by next weekend, thanks for input guy's.
