warrenz Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Hi In a recent thread someone was discussing learning how to weld. The CAE brochure in last Saturday's Age newspaper lists a new welding course. For anyone interested:- Introduction to Welding (HVA15302) $360, 6 sessions, on Thursdays 6-9pm starting October 19. Course covers oxy, metal arc and MIG - it is at the Docklands Automotive Centre of Excellence. Overalls and safety boots are mandatory. Go to http://www.cae.edu.au or call 96520611 Cheers Warren Quote

ChiprZ Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Greetings all Well i had the first class on Thursday night, which unfortunatly went off with many problems as first classes do. The extraction system in the room was not working as it had been switched off at a master shift which the teacher didnt have access to, stupid school forgetting classes started today turned it off. Because of this we didnt get to have a go with the MIG welders, however we were allowed to use the oxy's as the fumes are not as bad. Did get some paper work on welding from a text book which i assume we get every week so will look at getting this up online for people to have a read through and try and pick up the basic idea of welding. Only advice i can give so far is practise makes perfect....you really cant pick it up first go....i put a hole through the steel (and this was a fat bit of steel as well). But with practise i eventually managed to weld two bits of steel together. Quote
