dave_hl Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I just did something i knew i was bound to do the moment i bought me zed. leave my keys in the ignition then lock the door. luckily the car is parked in the driveway at home so im not stranded anywhere. i tried pulling real hard on the rear windows hoping they would pop open and then getting a pole to flick the door lock button, but couldn't open the rear window. but does anyone know a good way to break into a 280zx? dave_hl Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 sorry to trouble you all, i just got it open. cheers. Quote
zedevan Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 how'd u do it so we know for if we see it in the future?! hehe i believe with all the s30 zeds you need the keys to lock the drivers door, with my car i need them to lock the passenger door too was holding up the handle doesn't do anything? the drivers do thing is the same on my mates pintara so i thoguht it was mayb a nissan thing, big generlisation though! luke_mcmahon85 Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 yeah, my car is the same, it's annoying as the passenger has to get out first so you can reah over and push the door lock down and then get out yourself and lock your door with the key. good to see you got it open... if it happens again you could always borrow keys from a friend with a z, if the locks are old, they'l no doubt work, i know i can use my door keys on my boot despite the fact that they're different locks (new locks on doors) Quote
dave_hl Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 Well i didnt say because i didnt want to alert people to the fact that my drivers side door can be open with any old key. well almost anyway. After kickin myself thinking i was gonna have to pay some dude to come do it, i got dad to think of something, so he went and got my sisters nineteen ninety something subaru key and it opened the drivers side door perfectly. So i was happy to get it open but a bit concerned at how easy it was to break in. I think its because when the previous owner had the car it was stolen from him and they broke the lock getting in, (the cops then found it a week later) and he then got a new one jigged and installed it. Before we got the car open that way though, my plan was to pull real hard on the rear window thingies which pop out a bit and then slide a dowl pole in there and either flick the lock switch or push the power window button (the key was in ignition on on). Only problem was i coldn't open the rear windows from the outside. Anyway im gonna keep a spare key in my wallet now incase it happens again. Oh and by the way, dont try stealing my ride. I'm getting immobolisers (thats right plural), Remote central locking, GPS tracking, break in alert notification via mobile phone and remote start. still working out the cheapest way to do it but im working on it. i'll either buy the bulk of it on ebay or im hopefulyl going to hong kong later this year so we'll see. Also, a word of warning on GPS tracking, take your vehicle into a an underground, or multi level car park, no more tracking, same if you drive the car through heavily treed areas or in the CBD where you get canyons of no signals. GPS needs to be able to see the sky, and as much of it to pick up the satellites needed for getting a position. Unfortunately, locks and anti theft devices only keep honest people and bad car thieves from stealing your pride and joy. If an order comes in for your car type and yours is the unlucky one spotted a professional will steal it. For me one of the best anti theft device is insurance that covers the true replacement value of you car. The other is good secure shed or garage and being able to keep an eye on it when you take it out. A bit hard when it is your daily driver I know Quote
dave_hl Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 yeah good point with the GPS tracking. I was looking at one setup on ebay where you can put your voice over the car stereo while the thief is diriving, or shut off the car etc. so i dunno. its better then nothing. With insurance. i rang justcar a couple of days ago. and for 3rd party fire and theft. the premium is 520 and the excess for if its stolen is 700... and they're only gonna pay out to 2700. so i effectively get 2000 back if i make claim + get put in the crap books. Out of interest i got a comp quote from them too, it was gonna be a premium of 2500 and an excess of 2500. probably due to the fact that i listed about 50 million full sick mods and im an 18 yr old male. A mate with a VTi-R prelude suggested some insurer called 'vile' or something. he seems to get a pretty good deal there so i might try them. But i think ill just get standard 3rd party which is about 340 a year from just car. Quote
VertexZ Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 probably Vigil or Unique car insurance. I found that they have a similar price, but their excesses are 1200-1500, whereas just car is 850 (for under 25's). I was paying around $320 on my 260Z for straight 3rd party from just car (at age 22 no claims). My main problem was non standard motor (L28 efi) so that limits you to specialised insurers Quote
