Shan Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Hi guys, Can someone confirm for me which grilles are suitable for a 1975 260z 2 Seater? Can I use earlier 240z Grille? Can I use a 432 grille (which I may be able to get my hands on)? Or 260z 2+2? Cheers! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 24, 2010 Moderators Posted January 24, 2010 Just have to check where the screws go through to the brackets welded to the chassis; some are in different locations. I had a 260 grille on my 240 but two brackets didn't line up along the lower side. Quote
Ben Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Hi guys, Can someone confirm for me which grilles are suitable for a 1975 260z 2 Seater? Can I use earlier 240z Grille? Can I use a 432 grille (which I may be able to get my hands on)? Or 260z 2+2? Cheers! Are you sure it's a genuine Z432? Most of the mesh ones are 240Z-L JDM grilles. (the difference is in the size of the mesh - the Z432 has bigger holes.) Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 You cant use a 240Z grill on a 260Z. Well you can, but its not a direct bolt on. The mounting points on the lower part of the grill are in different positions on the 240z when compared to the 260Z. My 240Z grill was damaged, so I used it and parts from a 260Z grill to repair it. You can drill out the mounting bracket off the grill and fit ones to suit your car if you have them. Quote
Shan Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 You could be right. I understand that the 432 grill could be slightly different. Is definitely a 240z grill - perhaps from japenese market (with they had the mesh style). Still need to know which grilles will fit (or at least are most likely to fit) the 260z 2 seater. Cheers. GV260 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 How big are the holes for the genuine 432 mesh grille compared to the Jap. market mesh style grille? I have a mesh grille but don't know what model it is from. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 The Fairlady Z and the 432 had the same mesh grill. The only Fairlady Z that had a different gauge of mesh was the 432R. The racing version. It had a finer mesh / smaller holes, the reason being the oil cooler was up in the front of the radiator and the finer mesh protected it more from stone damage. Quote
RB30X Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I think if people know what they've got then post some pics up and sticky this thread so we all can see whats what and what fits what. cheers Quote
Shan Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 Well - I can't supply any photos - cause I do not have a grille yet :'( However, if posts are correct 240z and 260z can use same grille. Slight modification for screw holes is all that would required. Nothing major. Pic's of various grilles would certainly be helpful though. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 25, 2010 Moderators Posted January 25, 2010 Here's a couple of quick pics I took of the grilles I have. First poor one is of the 432 grille in my 240; if you can make out the lower left and right hand brackets on the chassis don't match with the grille. The two upper and lower middle match without any issues. Other pic is of a 260Z "venetian" grille. Quote
RB30X Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Here is a 260Z as Dimitri posted above fitted to a 240Z. Do you have a front on of your mesh grill? Does anyone have a pic of an original solid 240Z grill? Quote
Ben Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Well I was 1/2 right - I knew that there were 2 different sizes of mesh used in the JDM grilles. That will teach me to speak without checking the library first... Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Better treat that rust on the inside leading edge of your bonnet, and splash some paint on it Zedman Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 25, 2010 Moderators Posted January 25, 2010 Better treat that rust on the inside leading edge of your bonnet, and splash some paint on it Zedman Hehehe...I know... I spotted that a while ago when I first started the conversion.. That's what happens when you get monkeys to do panel work... swapped a mean injected L28 for that paintwork. Who got the shiver end of the stick? Quote
GV260 Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 My 432 grill is the same as Zedman's (Dimitri's) and fitted likewise re the top left and right and middle bottom matching up to the chasis brackets. The bottom left and right brackets were about an inch out. I made up two little alloy brackets to join to the grille, painted black to colur match it. Quote
