TAX MONEY = Z TOYS

hey got my tax back, lets just say its a reasonable amoumt...

 

so i got some cash to play with, if you were in my situation with a stock Z car from 1973 that is great in the body department, where would u put ur cash into first...

 

1. Suspension = coilovers/ other adjustable peices

2. Wats/flares/front airdam ie JDM look

3. carbon seats/airdam

4. keep cash save for engine work

5. koni's + semi comps

 

basically my car is about a week away from RWC, and getting it on the road, will need to call in sick next week to have it sorted.. haha. .... but just want to play around with the car now that everything is done, but will need to pay someone to do the work, as working to many hours and the misses and drinking alcohol prefers the out of work time...

 

for the fun of it, im thinking just koni's and semi comps for now as i can play with the stock motor etc and stock car, and maybe thou some seats into that, cause stock Z seats, hold me in the cabin not the seat... but i want turbo soonnner rather than later so number 4 sounds fun to

For the price of coil overs I'd go a decent set of springs and inserts for your stock struts, and probably look at either dropping the spring seat to lower the car, or if you need to raise and lower a set of adjustable platforms. I'd also look at adjustable strut tops for a bit of neg camber. Plus get some other goodies like a new set of bushes and maybe lengthened control arms for a bit more camber and some new adjustable castor rods for a bit more castor. That would make the Z handle like it was on rails.

 

For the motor, depending on what the eventual plans are and when, it a rebuild is planned for the couple of years, just an exhaust to get it breathing a little better, and maybe a little head work like a skim to up compression a little and a port and polish.

 

I think I'm right in your location being Melbourne, and if I was there, personally I would work out what my budget was and be giving Lindsay from Z Spares a ring and asking for that money what would my best bang for bucks would be for the car to do what you want it to do.

 

I lean toward suspension, as they say in racing - If you want to make up seconds spend money on the suspension, if its tenths you're after spend it on the motor. I have been fairly succssessful in days gone by with a Z with upt to 100hp less than the competition but could out corner and out brake them to quicker lap times and better race results.

i wouldn't "waste" any money on something you want to eventually change, unless its that cheap it doesn't really matter, but since you're raking it in now i think you may as well hold off doing the cheaper option for a bit and just drive the car as it is. going all out susspension would probably be the best way to spend the money given how u like to drive, and get a front lip too

 

i'm getting koni's put in with low king springs as soon as my car is roadworthy, then i'm going to get a set of rims with tax money and maybe fender mirrors, seats, then start on engine.

 

i dont like looking at how much i've earnt over the year then seeing how much i actully have :shock:, my aim for this year, like last year, is to waste less money :roll:

Option 2 for me but I'm a sucker for that fat look so prolly a bit biased!

I also think you should finish off suspension and upgrade brakes before you start thinking about any serious engine work.

Good 240Z's in the body department are becoming so rare that if the car is a really good little number it is a shame to take away the originality, it is worth a lot more in rigi didge condition so go get a another more beaten up car and modify it. Or at least change and modify the car you have got so it can be taken back to stock without too much of a headache and expense.....well that's my opinion od course!
