260z shift boot retainer ring.??

I'm after an inner shift boot to stop all the fumed getting in the car. I currently dont have one as it was converted from an auto. This link http://www.datsunstore.com/product_info.php/products_id/42 says I need a 'retainer ring'...what the hell is that and do I already have one ?

The metal finisher clamps down the rubber boot and seals fumes and noise from coming into the interior. Lynton
