My daily driver started usin water so I decided to replace the headgsket. Unbolted everything fine (except for searching for a 13mm multihex socket in 3/8 drive for the torquewrench for the headbolts), but still cant get the head off the block... tried hitting it with a mallet thorugh a wooden block - doesnt really help... service manual says not to use screwdriver to get the head off... any other suggestions on how to get the head off?

You have to make sure you are trying to lift the head off, it wont budge sideways if you know what I meen.

So use your mallet and wood and hit from below on an angle and it should brake seal.

Did you put a wedge in the timing chain to stop the tensioner from poping out?

one option you have for head removal is to hook an engine crane up to the lifting points on the head, and lift away... once you have a little bit of tension on it, either bounce the car a little or hit the head with a rubber mallet.
