Huw Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 well....cause I'm too broke to do anything else, I'm fixing up the doors myself at the moment....and I'm wanting to mount two small speakers and tweeters in each door (little JL ones)....(kinda like the way 240z.id.au has his mounted).... anyway, I've made a teardrop shaped mounting bracket for the speakers but....I'm trying to decide whether to make them more 3d by making fiberglass pods (or even making a mold to make them smoother) or using a light wood shaped by hand to match the curves of the door.... might sound vague, it's easier when you're looking at it....just want to know any suggestions? has anyone made fibreglass pods before? or molded stuff? I'm not a big fan of highly visible speakers etc (considering I've lived with AM radio for last 4 years this is spoling myself) and thus want to do a nice job on them (without paying an upholsterer!!) Natez Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 first question is you already have holes in ur doors dont you, as you better not be cutting up good door trims, but it is ur car... otherwise if you want a clean look, you can mount the speakers under the dash, if you don't want to cut up ur doors Quote
Huw Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 all mine have holes in them from teh previous owner (who covered in all in shag felt!! F....idiot) so I'm not having guilt twinges. There isn't much space under the dash that would work well is there? Quote
luke_mcmahon85 Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 my previous owner mounted them on the sides of the centre console... not only does it ruin the console, but the sound isn't that good either. i only have a little bit of fibreglass experience, and most of that has been construvting the shape out of modelling foam, and then laying the fibreglass over the top, after using filler and some sanding, it can look very smooth and nice, it's not hard, just very messy... luke_mcmahon85 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 we got the modelling foam from some place in dandenong, they didn't charge us anything for it either, so that was pretty cool, no idea about the name of the place, but i'll try and find out if you like... ...you can also use florists foam, if you only need a little bit, any florists should be able to help you Quote
