mtopxsecret6 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hey people, during my suspension cleaning and rebuilding.. im going to attack the wheels at the same time. Im looking for ideas on refurbishing the standard wheels back to new showroom condition.. ell, i should say more to the fact.. original condition. Firstly.. what finish did they have from factory.. and what have you guys done in refurbishing your wheels? Some pictures would be nice for ideas etc. thanks. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 31, 2009 Moderators Posted August 31, 2009 I had an old magazine that showed how to restore original alloys on a MX5 and make them look like Watanabe's and I remember them saying if you had access to a large lathe or a wheel balancer that would help with the polishing of the lip. It can be done by hand but will take many hours. I'm not sure of the original colour of the 260 mag wheel inserts...but I think they had a clear laquer coating to protect them but as I'm sure everyone has seen, goes yellow with age. I think a nice polish with a real dark gunmetal grey on the rough surface near the center will look great. Quote
