Hooking up Oil cooler?

Hey guys,

 

Ive just been looking at hooking up an oil cooler to the Zed, was wondering if anyone has done this and if so how did you do it, and what kind of results did you get?

I raced an Group Sc spec 240Z for a few years with no oil cooler (not permitted under Sc rules) with no problems.........use a good quality race oil.

 

According to the L series engine gurus......street cars can have the problem of the oil not getting hot enough (particularly in winter) which can be detrimental to the engine long term.

........unless you want the "go fast" look of an oil cooler .....If so call Stuart Wilkins Motor Sport for the filter adaptor plate, hose and oil radiator .

Agreed 

 

A good quality 10w 30 oil will warm up nicely in winter and disperse heat quite well in summer

 

However a transmission cooler on the other hand I feel is a must in any climate

It made a big difference to my car but that's on a circuit car with an oil cooled turbo.  They're pretty simple to hook up.  You need adapter block that sits under the oil flitler as 260Coupe described and some good quality hose and you well on your way.  As the others have said, shouldn't be necessary on a street car though.

As everyone else had said, unless it's a serious race motor, you don't need an oil cooler.

 

My 240 has raced for about 10years without one and no need to fit one for it, I just use a good quality oil and change regularly.

I was just thinking the car tends to run very noticably better on colder days, can anyone recommend a way for me to just run it a little cooler?

 

ive never had a serious overheating problem, just runs noticbly slower on those extra hot days.

It may just need a little tune up. All cars don't like hot air for the intake; why turbo's have intercoolers. If it's not that, try a airbox to get air from a cooler location. Have you measured the water temp? Should be around 86'c. If you have access to a infra red pyrometer, that's a good way to measure. Point it at the thermostat housing for a reading.
