Alex Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Surprise surprise, the floors need to be replaced on my 240z rusted through. just a question few questions about this ( bear in mind this is my first project car and im only good with mechanics i.e. still learning how to weld). Can you use 260 2+2 floor pans (cut shorter of coarse) to replace these? if not i'll just buy them, it'd just be cheaper for me which i know isn't a great thing to say but im on a pretty tight budget and secondly the rust damage to the floors has started creeping up the angled section behind the seat, the area you would normally weld the rear section of the floor pan. whats the best way to deal with that area? ( and sorry i dont know what its called. thanks guys AL - (novice restorer) Quote

You'll have to cut out all the rusted sheet and replace with new before welding in any replacement floors. From memory, 2+2 floor pans are quite different to 2-seater's, and not just in terms of length. They could probably be made to fit, but with all the mucking around and modification they'd need you'd probably be better getting new in the first place. Quote

It is one piece from the factory, but the aftermarket suppliers probably only make pieces to repair the common problem areas. I'd suggest talking to one of the Z specialists about what is available to repair your problem areas - it might have to be custom made. Quote
warrenz Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Not sure what Rare Spares is selling but the one I bought from AllZparts for a 2 seater is 1100mm long and the rear seat brackets weld to the new pan. So unless your rusted parts of the underbody are where the it rises up to go over the diff and wheels or at the point where it starts to bend up a replacement pan should replace the whole floor. There is a really good thread on replacing floor pans and the pictures may answer your questions. Cheers Warren Quote
