Supra 5 Speed onto L Series Engine

Hey All,

 

I have just been through the process of deciding whats best for me to do with my worn out 5 Speed - Rebuild, Conversion, or complete Engine & Geabox swap (for an RB25DET & Box).

 

I have decided on a complete engine and gearbox conversion, however I very nearly took this option.

 

Its a Supra 5 Speed box, which you then bolt up a custom bellhousing to which mates up with the Datsun L Series Engines.

 

You can buy the complete kit, or just the bellhousing if you want to source the Box yourself.

Thats pretty cool.  Those boxes are really common too cos they were on Hiluxs and 4runners too (well almost identical apart from the odd slightly different gear ratio).  Though the RB25 box is stronger and if doing a 25 conversion...

Yeah it is quite expensive, however when I actually asked for a price via email, it was a fair bit lower. Also remember those are NZ dollars. I guess you gotta weight it all up against the price of building the Z box up again, and even then youre left with 30 year old worn out gears !
