Fitted rear strut bar, with harness mounts

Here are some pics of my latest addition to the Z. I'm pretty happy with the end result.

I have used dia 34mm steel tube with 3mm wall thickness. Welded to 3mm mount plates and harness mounts either side and camera mount in the middle. Note that the harness mounts wrap around the bar, I thought that this would make it much safer as it will be holding my life on the track.

I'm starting to think that I should buy some equipment to make custom parts, coz without sounding like I'm blowing my trumpet, but It looks very cool.

 

In saying that though, look at the last photo. Always remember to remove flamables from the interior of the car. I was tacking the bar to the mounting plates and becuase I had a welding mask on, my periferal vision was a impaired. There is already a hot burning smell when you weld. But I left a black rag in the back un-noticed. It had some spatter land in it and I didn't notice it. Ended up melting some sound deadener, antenna co-ax cable and my favourite ratchet handle. Woops. Not to mention that it is on top of the fuel tank........
