I've been chasing a breaking up issue for months now. I did some headers and after that never ran right. I replaced spark plugs wires checked timing, replaced plugs . When I replaced plugs car ran beautifully after tuning su carbs (l28 with round tops). Then turned off car and didn't drive for a bit. Came back car broke up when accelerating. Found plugs to be arking across through the porcelain from the electrode. Replaced and again ran fantastic . Left for a bit and ran ok then went bad again. Same problem spark plugs . Using ngk bp6es tried gapping and still same issue gone through many plugs down still trying to track down what's causing this issue. Is it running to lean ? I've been richening the su's and can't find sweet spot . Plugs read quite rich. Anything I should be looking at ? Any help or ideas would be appreciated

"plugs read quite rich is it running lean"   bit of a contradiction ,, maybe a vacuum leak at the manifold since only happening after the headers, the fact that you are making it richer  suggests a vacuum leak, a really wet plug often will not come back to life unless the engine is running correctly to burn it off, and black soot will cause the plugs to short at the electrode, it might not be your problem but when mine was breaking down it was the coil, I removed the ballast fitted an electronic one off a commodore, small little black one, the engine will redline the tacho every time.

Thanks for the reply linton. I'll have a look into a possible vac leak. And Ill invest in a new coil aswell since it probs needs to be replaced
