Hi

Can any one tell me if all 280ZX manual transmissions had the reverse lock out ? if not ...any idea when the change occurred?

It's not so much as a "lckout" more a heavier detent spring and piston in a seperate bolt in cup with a small lever.

Have seen them on various 5 speed trans, from early 1980's on.

Thanks for that .....yeah I know how they work....just wondering when they were introduced.....I've seen a gear box that is claimed to be out of a 280ZX but without the " bolt in cup " could it be an early 280ZX or just a ring in??

ZX's were produced from 1978-9, that box mod didn't turn up till 81-82.

Could be a ZX box! They had slightly different input drive/driven ratios sets, which then alters the gear ratios within. Some were a 3.32 first, others were 3.59 first,
