webbered six Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Hi all, I've just completed transplanting my L24 78 dat skyline with a 260z,mild cam and 2'' Jag S.U'sthat have 2 float bowls per carb. My L24 mech pump fits the 260 fine but will this supply enough fuel. I've been told to run only 1 bowl per carb and i've also been told i'll need a holley blue. I'm aware that the 260z ran an electric fuel pump but was it similar to the holly blue? and do I use the return fuel line still. Did the 260 use a fuel regulator or was the pump designed for the S.U's. Would like to hear from anyone running similar set up and any help at all will be appreciated. Quote
modular9 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 hello I have just done the fuel pump regulator thing. on twin su carbs from a jag. My carbs are the 1 3/4 versions with single float bowls per carb , I dunno if this makes the rest of what i have done not the same for you but ... The reason I went for a larger pump ( holley blue ) was I have used them before, and the mechanical pump + electrical pump in the back did not flow enough fuel to the SU's as well as I have got a set of triples getting ready for use which were going to tax the stock system. I got rid of the mechanical fuel pump all together and just use the really noisy holley blue pump as a standalone pump. The only thing i have changed is to allow the pump a little time before i hit the spark on the engine. First . The holley blue i picked up came with a fuel pressure regulator. Which is set to a default 6psi setting. I stumped up for a pressure gauge to check this. The pump can go up to 15 psi or something like that. I was worried the fuel bowls would blow up but someone on here as well as the bloke at jagspares up here said that they could take the pressure if they are rebuilt which i did about 4 mths ago. second. My setup is one new fatter line to replace the two out of three lines coming from the back . The breather setup i didnt touch at all. The single fat line goes from fuel tank > fuel filter > pump > Length of car > fuel filter in engine area >regulator with the gauge on one of the outlets > to currently a twin fuel rail type of thing i nicked off a jag engine i have kicking about. I dont have a return fuel line but I can hear the pump throttling down when i am not on throttle. All hosing was upspecced to efi spec just to over engineer everything! I am sure there are some other people out there with a closer to your configuration. Quote
webbered six Posted January 1, 2008 Author Posted January 1, 2008 thanks modular9 for your feed back. I think what you've done is what I'm going to have to do. Did you change the size of the line coming out of the tank or only from the pump onwards which i presume is located very close to the tank. What size are stock fuel lines on the 260z so i can compare them to my ones. Thanks Ricky and I'd still like to hear from others with similar set up. Quote
dazzed Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 why are you fitting jaguar carbs to a datsun, do you feel sorry for them being abbandoned, thus giving them a better home to reside in such as a datto, advice ,,, put them on the railway line more fun. Quote
