Hey guys,

Build thread has been a long time coming, and I'll add photos later.

I bought the car back in May 2004 from Melbourne. It's was a long flight to look at it and a even longer one to get back(all done in one day).

It was advertised as a 1973 auto datsun turbo. It was a cool car and I handed over the money later that week and the old owner dropped it off at the trucking depot for its long travel to Perth. The car was mostly standard with the addition of l20 turbo gear, supra intercooler, rb20 turbo and autronic smc controlling the whole shooting match.

The first thing on my mind was to convert to manual, so I started trolling the quokka and managed to find Martin Falconer of Tuneright. He took the car, installed a rebuilt gearbox, a r200 diff, strut braces and a boost gauge. I drove it daily for a while then decided the seats were no good and installed some recaro copy buckets.

I then stumbled across the wolf creek cv kit and purchased those, and got Martin to install them with some 260z stub axles. Not too long after I purchase a KAAZ LSD center and got that installed and the diff rebuilt.

I drove it like that daily for a while and god it was terrible to drive without feeling like I was racing everywhere. It made some pretty horrific noises with how harsh it was and I put it down to it as to what killed my tranny. So I gave it the flick and started researching how to convert to running a rb25 turbo box(I've always had plans for more power) I purchased all the parts, gave martin instructions on how to install it and left him with it. A few weeks later I got it back, such a difference com paired to the L gearbox, it was a dream to drive, but the throw was terrible, cue old mate short shifter and all the gripes disappeared.

About this time i really wanted to find the source of the banging in the rear. So a lot of emails to Datrat and I had myself a set of beefie cv's but to fit them I needed to hog out the adaptors to make it a interference fit with the stub axles. Out with the old and in with the new. Low and behold still a bang, but lesser. That killed my motivation as it was around this time I was informed of my girlfriends pregnant state.

Instead in a last fit to spend some money before I had none to spend, I ordered AZC brakes and sent my struts to Otomoto to convert them to coil overs, and thus began the rebuild of the suspension. While I was there I changed all the old bushes to poly and replaced all the wheel bearings, aswell as a quick squirt of paint on the control arms.

With it driving like a dream I just enjoyed it for a while.

Eventually I found some money and set about my epic(for me) l28 turbo build. Everything was sent over to Peter Mac, all started out to be a budget build but as it always, inevitability it spiralled out and I ended up spending a small fortune. Quick parts list for those interested.

Ross forged pistons

Spool conrods

AZC sump

Wolf racing intake

Trust turbo manifold

Tial 44mm wastegate

Gt35r .63 housing

China spec cooler

800cc bosch injectors

Sard fpr

Rather expensive rewire of the ecu loom

Petermac dizzy to suit the autronic 500r cdi system and m&w double coil packs

Rebuild, porting, cam all done by peter

Tuned by les Collins and run in on the engine dyno

Bosch 044 fuel pump

Unfortunately I did all the dodge $&@t to install it when it returned, after messing about for a while between moving towns, I managed to get it running.

I've missed so much but it's been a long time and it's a rather long build time.

Just purchased myself a welder and I hope to get good enough to fix all of my dodgy workman ship and really make it a car to be proud of. First fix my exhaust, and remake dump in stainless to suit the rest of the system, and then have a better go at the cooler and piping.

Thanks for reading, I hope to throw up a heap if photos at a later date, I'll try dump all the ones I have on my photo bucket account.

Thanks

Aaron
