Hey guys i have 2 Zeds... one is a very low number 260z 2+2 number 960 (i presume thats pretty low) and yay no emmisions but auto... also have a 77 2+2 which is my parts car.. the guy on ebay wrote r200 dif in the description for it.. that car is a manual, also wen i bought it it had a l24e in it. Some of you may have seen it on ebay its red from the fenders forward with decals and a black rear, have since pulled the gearbox with dad (reverend z) for his 260.... basically just wanting to know if u guys have any idea what is is these cars dif wise...also i have read about 3 different E88 heads the 74 is all matching numbers so im wanting to know if this is the better e88??

so what dif would be the best for a manual.. im prepared to sacrifice top speed for acceleration... i want a 260 that gets up on it fairly fast...

 

iv sold the l24e on ebay just have to get it outta the car....sorry..

If (and thats a big if!) I remember correctly, R31 silhouette skylines had a 4.1 diff ratio (as well as an LSD)....  If thats the case, that would probably the best outright acceleration ratio without going aftermarket?  May need to research about the halfshafts though - for some reason I recall them being an easy swap, but that may be very wrong.

 

My memory is pretty fuzzy though, I'm sure others have better information...

 

*EDIT* Quick search tells me R31 Pintaras are 4.1, Auto R31 skylines had 3.89s in both LSD and open (lsd may well be viscous)....

Hey dzeyene, you seems to have a lot of Zed stuff lying around....OH that's right it's in my backyard!  If you don't get a move on Mum's likely to sell our entire Zed collection....I know I started the whole Zed thing but you better finish it!

haha dad very funny lol... which pintara auto or manual u sure they all had lsd?? cos it seems alot of people want these difs and a lsd and the pintaras are a dime a dozen??

realistically a 3.9 mechanical lsd will cost you atleast a grand, just put the diff in from the manual car you had.

 

i found the 3.7 ratio better for general thrashing as my 'new' 3.9 requires changing gears out of 3rd at around 90, also for cruising at 100kmh on a freeway ur sitting nearly 500rpm higher which can't be all that great for petrol consumption.

 

In my opinion the change to an lsd effects the handling of your car alot more than a change in diff ratios will noticeably affect acceleration

I don't believe the pintaras are LSD at all....  But an auto Skyline rear diff shouldn't be too hard to find at a pick a part, the trick is finding one thats LSD before someone else snaps it up.

Yeah, early pintara's didn't have LSD's as far as I'm aware, unless the TRX had them... good luck finding one of them! lol. Pintara's aren't that rare. However, an R31 Pintara TRX is extremely rare.

 

it seems that only the r31's with the ca20E(not skylines with rb30) had them both sedan and wagon versions....

 

The only R31 that had an LSD was the R31 skyline silhouette and that ran an RB30, the CA engine was used in Pintara's.

yer i ment only the r31 pintaras with ca20 had the 4.11 ratio dif... i never knew they made a r31 trx my mates got a u12 trx goes alrite but fwd... thanks for the help guys...

Umm, every R31 sky/pin has had a live axle bog warmer and the only IRS diff was the R31 GTS witht he RB20 and RB30ET, but i could be wrong.
