CAMS requirements regards the mounting of a in car camera

I have done a quick search through the CAMS manual but haven't been able to locate the requirement/regulation regards the mounting of a in car camera, anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Peter, if you are using a Go Pro or Radcam type camera, and mountied inside the vehicle to the roll cage with appropriate clamps you should be right.

 

If you are looking for mounts try these guys..... http://www.ja-gps.com.au/RAM-Mounts Johnny Apleseed GPS have the best range in Qld for ram mounts, basically what you need for a Go Pro or Radcam if you haven't already got a mount or need extra arms etc.

 

Check the event regs regarding cameras on the outside of the vehicle, some are OK some aren't. If mounted to the outside make sure you have a secondary cable tie so the camera belts the crap out of your panels and not hit another car, or worse go through the windscreen. Alo a good idea to have a secondary tether for inside the car as well, just in case.

If using suction cup type mounts, and it's a CAMS event, def need a secondary tether, ie a few cable ties looped together in a saisy chain, attached to something that is secure.

 

If in doubt prior to event, do above, no matter what the mount, the Scruts will look at it, and say nothing!

Suction mounts on the windscreen suck, err, they are unreliable. At least for us sprinters who push so hard that the windscreen flexes and vibrates 

 

If you have a cage mount the camera on metal brackets in the middle of the car not much behind the driver's head and about that level. That location will give a good picture, not too far back. Type of bracket etc depends on the camera but mine is about cigarette packet size and sits inside a home made foam lined metal pocket.

The RAM brand suction cup mounts are brilliant, but pricey. I have used them on trains, helicopters, cars, hovercraft and boats with a great deal of success holding cameras and housings around 1/2kg in weight at reasonably high speeds.

But for the faster blokes windscreen suction mounts are unreliable. Ask me how I know
