peter t Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hi, my sons car is a 1988 Pintara (4 banger) I need to get the bottom cam belt drive pulley off to replace the oil seal. I tried when renewing the belt but was unable to get the pulley off . Now the seal really needs to be done. Can anyone help with what puller I will need. The BOOK just says to use a suitable puller. I have a few but not the right one . I just need a pic maybe to go and buy one. Thanks . Quote
Wayne G Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Hi Peter it should just lever of. Two pry bars or screw drivers, one each side behind the gear and moderate, even pressure. From memory, because of the oil pump/front cover design, you will struggle to get the puller legs behind the gear. Cheers Wayne Quote
Six_Shooter Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 This is likely the type you need here: Better yet I prefer this type: The second works as both a remover and installer. The installation aspect is great because you don't need to use the crank bolt to install the harmonic balancer/crank pulley and risk damaging the crank's threads. Quote

I have found the puller I need on the WWW but seems impossible to buy here. My engineer mate has loaned me a two jaw puller that may do. I posted this just on the off chance someone in Brisbane may have one that I could have borrowed. Quote
Wayne G Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 good luck. sing out if you need help, as I still have my trade tools with a large variety of 2 and 3 leg pullers as well as plate pullers. I know I have slid them off with pry-bars previously. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 If the pulley is also the harmonic balancer DO NOT use a two gear pulley to pull on the outer ring. This can separate the outer ring from the inner hub. Quote
