This is a long shot,

BUT, has anyone got a Motech style 36-1 (something like that) crank mounted trigger wheel and pickup they want to sell?

I am having massive problems getting my Optical distributor to generate a signal, let alone continue working for any time longer than a few seconds.

I need a replacement. I'll probably end up buying the parts elsewhere, but i may as well keep the cash inside our little community if i can.

Anyways, If anybody has anything, PM me please.

Thanks, Alan.

L28ET

Im looking at buying the 36-1 wheel and mounting it to the backside of the balancer, then mounting a pickup on the timing cover.

But if i can get a 'known working' bolt on setup, that'll save me from pulling out a few hundred hairs...

I've got a couple spare optical L28ET distributors if you want to try... you may have a dud module on yours.

Thanks Dimitri, but i think i want to move away from the optical setup.

I dont know whats going on with my setup, but i now have 2 new optical modules and 2 Haltech E6X ECU's.

None of them will pick up a cranking signal.

very frustrating....

How many volts are you feeding into your module? If its too low, you won't get a good signal. Some ECU's give you a choice of 5 or 12 (IIRC).

I have 12v feeding into the module, the ground is in good condition.

I have verified that both the home signal and the trigger signal wires are in good condition between the CAS plug and the ECU plug

The ECU shows 5v on the home signal wire on ECU start up (there is a pull up option that is reccomended in an optical/hall setup)

That 5v signal is supposed to drop when the ECU detects pulse inputs, then using the 5v output from the module as the home signal.

When i crank the engine i get no RPM reading on the Haltech, even with the plugs out and no load on it at all. (cranks pretty fast)

I tried it with the pull up setting disabled and still no change.

Either i have 2 modules that dont work (VG30ET modules from a Z31) or 2 E6X ECU's with damaged trigger inputs, or both?

Next step is to re-design the crank trigger, if that doesnt work im going to pull all the EFI and put carbies on it.

Edit: Typing that out has prompted me to check that i actually have a stable 12v to the CAS during cranking...

I'll check that tomorrow, if thats it, i owe you a beer Dimitri. ;)

When I was running a very early Wolf ECU, if my battery was even a tiny bit flat or just the weather cold (12' or below) my zed wouldn't start; it would crank rather quickly, but no start. As soon as I'd get a jump start, instant life!
