Brabham Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi, I have a set of flat tops (insert comiserations here ) where the piston in one of them does not move that easily. The rear carb was seized so I pulled of the dome, cleaned it and the piston, put it back together, topped up the damper piston oil with 10W-30 as per manual and it worked fine. The front carb seemed to work fine without any oil (engine has not been started yet), used my finger to lift the piston and gave a nice "thunk" as it came down. Filled up the oil and it was very hard to move. Pulled of the dome and piston, cleaned and reassembled as with the rear, again worked fine with no oil but after topping up the oil was very difficult to move, the oil is not overfull so that does not explain it. Pulled apart and reassembled it twice but it is still much more difficult to raise the piston than the other one. Any ideas on what is happening with it and how to fix it? Cheers Quote

Brabham Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Hi Tim, I tried a little bit of oil on the inside of the dome but this didn’t work so I wiped it out. Reassembled it dry, it worked fine then filled up the damper with oil and it became difficult to move. Will try the WD40. Just seems strange that it works fine dry but doesn’t like the oil for some reason. Cheers. Quote

Guessing this may be to offset differences in the tolerances? Are you supposed to oil the inside of the domes when assembling them or is it supposed to be dry -ie air/fuel only. Cheers. Quote

Otherwise it looks good. Will let you know how I go, getting close to firing up engine now Quote
