Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 3, 2008 Moderators Posted July 3, 2008 Unless your loom was damaged beyond repair and a spare wasn't available, I think that would be the only time I would tackle something like that! If you know your electrics and can do it all yourself, no problem! You can find instructions on how to add a relay to the lighting system to install higher wattage headlights on this forum somewhere I'm sure. Or again if you know your stuff you can d.i.y it! If you want the ultimate headlight power you can probably invest in a xenon conversion; I don't mean those quartz halogen globes with added xenon gas, the proper system with ballasts etc.. Quote

fufu Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 No, that product won't work with standard Datsun 240z globes, without a few mods. Reason being is that Datsun 240z don't have a headlight assembly(twist the bulb to remove from rear types). The front headlights are actually MASSIVE globes and the wiring links directly to the back of it. So, in order to fit HIDs to the Datsun 240z, firstly you need to convert the standard Datsun globes to headlight assemblies, easily done as theres heaps of them on ebay. After that buy a matching set of HIDs, when i say matching i mean the bulb shape to the rear of the assembly eg. HB4, H7,H8, H4, etc... example of product can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-H4-Bright-White-Light-System_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ46093QQihZ020QQitemZ300238390589QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Of course taking into account that new headlight regulator must be installed to get a consistent flow of wattage. But personally i think... a lot of xenon HID conversions actually use less wattage then standard globes. But this is on the assumption of a modern car and not of a Zed. As i did read this somewhere when i did the HIDs conversion for my Honda DC2R. Quote
mrp69 Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 will this headlight harness help out??? http://www.blackdragonauto.com/ICATALOG/Z/full.aspx?Page=61 peter Quote
fufu Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 WOW! nice find. I will order one when my re-assembly starts. I was considering buying that overpriced version on ebay from that texas guy. Just goes to show there are bargains everywhere, just need to find the right place. and the answer to your question is yes that is the right harness. Basically it directly links to your battery and the switch only acts as a switch. This harness also includes grounding points. Nice Find. Fu Quote
