zedls1 Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Hi all, I had a 240z 73 some 20 years ago, cobalt Blue in colour, black trim, 15 x 7" 205/60's front, 15 x 8" 225/60's rear, Simmons honey combe rims with silver centre, Koni shocks with Kings lowered springs handled like a train on tracks, stock motor with 2.5" system. Loved the car had it for 8 yrs unfrotunately had to sell the car. I never got around to doing a v8 conversion, but I see most go for RB26 or RB30 turbo setups. I am in the market for another 240z or 260z 2 seater. Quote
George Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 welcome to the boards hope you find your piece of the Z pie. Quote
JP Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 I am still midway through my RB30 conversion and have been for a couple years now. If I could do it all again I would have built a crazy L28 instead. I would have been finished by now and not have had the headaches of custom this and that. Im sure it will be fun in the end though. zedls1 Posted September 25, 2007 Author Posted September 25, 2007 Hi drunkenmaster, good luck with your build. Is your RB30 Turbo or N/A. Like you said it'll be worth it in the end. I would love to get a 240Z with a v8, but i'm also open to RB30 turbo or N/A. Will your Z be used for racing? or just cruizin? or both? Quote
JP Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Mine is a turbo with a twin cam head. I saw LS1 mounts in the US, if you can get pre made mounts thats half your battle, but you still need to many accessories as you know like charcoal cannisters, drive shaft, suitable radiator etc etc. Orginally I was going to build a mean L28 in my garage, but then I wanted independant EFI throttle bodies, and then I wanted to turbo the L28, and then I wanted a V8 like you. It was actually when speaking to an overseas workshop who play with the V8's I wanted that they recommended to build my RB motor at a cheaper price than the V8. Anyway, thats how quickly things get out of hand. Orignially the car was for track days, but the way it is now, it wouldnt fit any meaningful category and I probably couldnt bare to risk getting any damage on her Quote
sco_aus Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 hahaha, man thats so true. Welcome dude, personally if i were to ever use a V8, it would always be a 1UZ. They have a similar weight to a 4cylinder engine (all alloy), strong, quad cam, plenty of parts available, reasonable price and no more difficult to fit than a LS1 with an aftermarket ecu and loom. Hope im not patronising here, just reckon they are the shiz. Quote
zedls1 Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Hi guy's thanks for your feedback. I should try to attend the next track day through the club to see both turbo & v8 setups, and meet some of the members and have a chat. Quote
zed240au Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 well i like the v8s never got into the turbo idea only driven turbo diesels so dont really know what im missing Ive been running nissan v8 for 15 years or more currently changing to late model v8 just luv the choice in parts u have for the more main stream motors and hp is good to start with and plenty after market parts avilable and so simple to fit though im happy think ive found a way to keep th bug catcher with the efi motor kinda used to that sticking out of the bonnet and the hole makes it easy to look in engine bay mick Quote
zedls1 Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 Hi Mick, thanks for the feed back. What current v8 upgrade you going for? I'd luv one with a 350 chev or ls1, they just look so right in the engine bay. Are you doing the upgrade yourself? John Quote
zed240au Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 hi joh yes im doing upgrade myself but keeping mum on the motor at the moment dont want george jumping in and beating me to the punch again mick Quote
