Keen to find a 240Z that isn't too rusted out - some things I have read are beginning to give me cold feet... Am also an MX5 owner for the past 12 years and updated it to a decent road runner with Koni's, stainless brake lines, B&D rollbar etc. Now itching to do the same on a Zed Your forum looks impressive, helpful and friendly. Lynton Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Welcome, Zeds are great and simplistic in their own way but remember the very first series of the MX5's are already 10 years newer than the last of the S30's Zeds so if your perception of an old model MX5 turns you off compared to your presumably newer MX5 then the Zed is no different in your outcome of thinking and expectation?? AGM90 Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Lynton Yes, I can't expect a car built in 69 to be similar to one built in 89 - Mine is actually a 92 and so am looking forward to non assisted steering, raw feel and purity etc.Have driven two 240Z, one was a rusty project-case with firebreglass front panels & guards and I liked the steering feel, the second was one that was quite well kept (one owner etc, unrestored) and somehow didnt quite like it,and reminded me of my bro's 200B SSS with ponderous steering etc. But, I love seminal cars and the 240Z looks is something special, so I shall attempt to find one that I would like to drive, own and keep. Classic cars cost a never ending bucket of money to restore and maintain, thats the nature of the beast. You've got to pay to play, as long as your prepared for this prior to going in and follow through until you realize your goal the net result is always worth it..... Quote
AGM90 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Hi Yes Ive had a look at those Zeds - but I suspect a bit too challenging for me. Am realistically aware that Classics can be a money pit, and was hoping the 240Z might be slightly better than the Europeans, but it seems it the rust - in the most unlikely and hidden places. Guess early Jap cars just dont have the same modern rustproofing that we take for granted. Have already put my panel beater on notice that am heading the Z way, but will probably buy a semi-restored car and just update the colour - or at least that's the plan ;)No rush to build, can spread out over a few years as funds allow. BTW how come no one has mentioned Linday's early 240Z yellow that's up for sale in Victoria? Apologies if I have missed that thread. Quote
