  1. Hi all, I'm a 17 year old doing up a 1982 280ZX, which I bought a few months ago, not running when I bought it. At the current time it idles fine, and I can rev it up. I've set the timing to 8 degrees BTDC, but I'm having trouble working out how my distributor advances the timing. I understand how mechanical advance works with weights and springs, and I've read the FSM. The FSM says that the electronic module on the side of the distributor should have 2 plugs, each with two wires (ie. four wires total). Mine only has 1 plug, the one that connects to the coil. The distributor has weights and a governor built in, but the grooves in the shaft assembly don't appear long enough to provide any mechanical advance. So it looks to me like the distributor doesn't do mechanical advance, but doesn't have the wiring for the ECU to control the timing. I've triple-checked the wiring loom, and can't even find a plug for the supposed second connector to the distributor. It looks to me like the engine is meant to have mechanical advance in the distributor. Do I have the wrong distributor? Am I missing something?
  2. Hi all, I've recently purchased a 280ZX and I am currently in the process of fixing it to the point where it is roadworthy. It was not in the greatest condition when I bought it, and as such, I would like to have a look at a decent example of the same model, to make comparisons and to build an understanding. If you have a car that fits the following description, and are located in the Brisbane area, please let me know. 1982 280ZX N/A Manual 2+2
  3. Hi all, On my 1982 280zx, I've had to replace the windscreen wiper arm assembly (everything attached to the motor), and I've been supplied with new blades from the bloke I bought it off. The new blades, however, do not mate to the arm the same way that the original ones do. The original ones have a clasp riveted to the arm, whereas the new ones are supposed to screw directly to the arm. I could simply recondition the old blades, or is the common practice to drill the rivet out and thread new holes on the arm for new blades?
