HI all,
I have a major project i am working on...its been devil. And its had several helpers helping it get here. A 260z 2 + 2.
The car was recently removed from a settled shed .driven i time a month affair until it got less often.
I got it and ran it everyday...and have been replacing parts reg as each day passes.
The recent event was a overheat that was rads fault but it damaged the head as well.
The head been machined, and rad rebuilt. On replacement the cam shaft snapped at the join...near 5-6. it has really warped...and an assistant had undone all bolts from one end not sequenced. Because a few parts got missing ..the front timing ass was removed to look for floating parts just in case. A second hand cam was found. Fitted and no 2nd snap! Thank god.
The new issue is this.....no one remembers if the timing bracket was on the motor on the dissy side...yes there is a bracket on the alternator side ...
Q1 do datsun 260z have a dual timing bracket..or are they ment to have one....
Q2 if one is ment to be on alternator side ..or air con (dissy side)
we also have an issue with dissy --- rotor alignment for position spark plug cyc1,
I am , from memory believe position1 is with the dissy vac advance pointing towards
front rad corner..
and rotor pointing to front rad ...also being the lowest far forward on the left of the dissy.
and from mem..the layout...i thought was sp1 / coil wire / sp5 /sp3 / sp6 / sp2/ sp4
starting from the front and going anti clock
However a few shots -- pictures of someones layout of dissy cap off , with position 1
and timing mark matching ..would help
as would
disssy cap on....and plug leads marked to show position on the dissy for position 1 and
all leads being seen traceable in the picture to the right spark plug.
i will make sure i note them...and can check...
if i need the larger timing bracket for 260z ( that goes on the dissy side) where would i get one?
The other issue seems to be , since the head was done ...and cam changed over i got to reset all valves...cold first...then hot..
so these other settings are important.
Any help would be great ..pictures are great too!
thanks big baz
