I was hoping someone knowledgable about Jap import engines could help me, any advice appreciated!
My mate has just bought a Toyota Corolla hatch that has a Jap engine and a turbo in it. It was registered in QLD a few years back but when he bought it had been sitting in a backyard in NSW for a year or two. Now that he is trying to get it registered he has run into a few hitches, namely he has been told he needs an Engineer's Cert and an Emission certificate before it can be registered in NSW.
There are 2 things he has been told about the process that I would like some feedback on, namely
1. That the only emission testing site in NSW is in Penrith (which will be pretty difficult to do and want to avoid if necessary)
2. The Engineer he has spoken to said he may be able to get around the emission test if he can find out what car the engine orginally came from.
Does this sound right? the main thing i want to know is, What is the best way of finding out what car the engine came from, like is there a site where we can put the Engine number/model in to find out or anything or who can you call to find out?
any advice appeciated!
