Veloce Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Well i bought kenny's old 240Z (introductory post here http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,6692.0.html) Thought you guys might like to have a squiz at this old school blower set up that came with the car. I'm somewhat tempted to get it going but there must have been a reason why it was disconnected. I know turbo fed carbys are difficult to tune and i assume its not much different with a supercharger, but it couldnt be that hard since it would only run a low 6 or 7 psi? I don't know what blower it is but i'm pretty certain it is a Toyota MR2 item. The pulley is off the car, but it appears to just bolt onto the original crank pulley. It also appears to have a Mad Max style switch to turn it off and on. I doubt i would use the original pipework, as it looks like something you would find in a toilet block. So yeah who knows... maybe i'll just sell it if anyone is interested? Quote
zzzzed Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 If i was going to use this i would ad fuel injection first. Im not a fan of plow throw carby boost the blower looks like an sc12 toyota blower. I had a sc14 on a datsun 1200 with an a15 motor it was a whole lot of fun with instant boost at the flick of a switch Quote
Veloce Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Yes fuel injection is the way to go, although i dont want to throw a bunch of money at it until i get other more important issues sorted first. i'm more a turbo guy anyways. But it is tempting to give this a shot as all the hard work has been done, and hey if it runs like a dog i can just take off the belt and fit the original air filter. What sort of tuning issues are there with superchargers and SU's? I imagine you end up tuning them rich at idle so they dont lean out too much up top on boost? Quote
zzzzed Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 i dont know i have never seen an su /hitachi as a blow through set up. Most of the carby sc12/ 14 superchargers i have seen have been suck through. You will need a good blow off valve because you have positive boost on deceleration and need to vent it some where or you will blow pipes of ir seals in carbys Quote
RB30X Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Yeah that's the cheap import blowers they used to use on holden V6's before they invented the raptor kit etc. Quote
Veloce Posted March 23, 2010 Author Posted March 23, 2010 Did a bit more research, it's definatly been done before but its not worth the trouble for a measly 6psi or whatever. I'd rather spend money and time on an RB conversion, but thats a fair ways down the track yet So anyone want to buy the set up? Would be a great starting point for a twin charge project for you L28ET guys Quote
