1972 Nissan Fairlady Z432R

Quote

As with the first-generation Skyline GT-R, this example is equipped with a 2-liter DOHC S20 unit. Z432 was added to the lineup as the high-performance model for the S30 Fairlady Z. A base model for racing, based on the 432, this example comes equipped with an FRP bonnet, the sheathing metal thinner by 0.2mm compared to a regular S30, the side and rear window composed of a lighter acryl, thus shedding more than 100kg in total. With endurance races in mind, the Z432R was fitted with a special 100-liter fuel tank (standard is 60 liter).

With basically the same engine as Z432, but expecting to be tuned for races, sans the air cleaner with the funnel for the carburetor left uncovered. The maximum output for the engine remains the same as the Z432, 160ps/18kgm. The interior is simplified with comfort equipment such as the radio and heater removed. Replacing the reclining seat with a bucket seat, the only missing a roll cage to participate in a race. It truly is a very spartan setting.

Chassis number “PS30-00218” is an authentic “R”. With the chassis number re-stamped, it is said to be the only example to have the NISSAN logos above the numbers to prove its authenticity. The driver’s seat has been replaced to avoid deterioration over time but the original seat is stored separately.
