Administrators gav240z 3,005 Posted May 14, 2020 Administrators https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/15338/lot/347/ Registered as: TRO 111M Listing: 24 Mar 2007, 11:00 GMT Kenilworth, Stoneleigh Park Quote Following acquisition by the current owner in 1999, this 1970 Datsun 240Z was consigned to marque specialists Z Farm to be transformed into a replica of an early 1970s works team rally car. Subsequently, the right-hand drive coupe has been further developed for special stage rallying in the 1968-1974 Post Historic category by Mike Brown Rally Services. The coupe, last rebuilt in 2004 and unused competitively since, presents well with metallic blue paintwork and black interior, while V5, tax disc and MOT are all current. With big-valve, gas-flowed head by DJ Race and Rally Services, Cosworth high-lift camshaft, uprated oil pump, baffled ‘wet’ sump, transistorised ignition and electric fuel pumps feeding triple Weber 40 DCOE carbs, the 2.4-litre six produces circa 200bhp. Transmission upgrades include competition clutch, close ratios for the 5-speed gearbox and R200 limited-slip differential with 5.1 crown wheel and pinion. There are Leda Macpherson struts all round, the steering arms quick-ratio. Chassis legs and supports for the 6-point cage, by Safety Devices with door bars, have additional strengthening gussets. Brake upgrades consist of 10½ in diameter front discs with homologated 4-pot calipers, rear disc conversion and braided steel hoses. Pipes and wiring run inside the shell which has steel panels, Perspex side windows and high-back buckets with full harnesses. Wheels are 14in diameter 6J Wolfrace. Owner and Datsun have enjoyed successful runs in the Welsh forests on the Bull Dog, around the tortuous tarmac of Caerwent, on the closed public roads in Killarney and on the switchback military range roads of Eppynt where a 10th overall was achieved. In really super cosmetic and mechanical order, this evocative and rally-ready 240Z is only in need of a new home today due to retirement. Listed again: 15 Mar 2008, 12:00 GMT Kenilworth, Stoneleigh Park Quote The specification of this 1973-registered 240Z replicates modifications employed for the works rally team Datsuns of the 1970/1973 era whilst at the same time being HRCR Technical Regulations compliant for special stage rallying on tarmac and in the forests in the Post Historic category. The original RHD body-shell was fully restored by marque specialists Z Farm with further competition preparation by Kevin Bristowe who reinforced and gusseted chassis legs, seam-welded shell, added sill supports to accept FIA-standard 6-point roll-cage with door bars in mild steel by Safety Devices. Outer panels were renewed as necessary and painted in Datsun Metallic Blue. Suspension pick-up points have been strengthened, Bilstein rally-spec struts front and rear have up-rated springs and adjustable spring platforms, bushes have been changed to competition nylon type and, more recently, hubs renewed. Nissan Motorsport quick-ratio steering rack and arms with nylon rack bushes and wedged and reinforced cross-member have been fitted. At the front are 4-pot callipers with ventilated discs; at the rear, 280ZX callipers and solid discs, with Mintex 1144 compound pads all round and Aeroquip brake hoses. All brake and fuel lines have been routed out of the way inside the tunnel. A Dave Jarman 240Z engine rebuild included rebalancing crankshaft with flywheel and clutch, and fitting Cosworth 76 degree pump, competition distributor drive gear, Nissan Motorsport alloy baffled sump. Other mods, 4-core rad, ex-works inlet manifold ported to head, Aeroquip fuel lines, Facet electric pump with adjustable regulator, Janspeed 6-branch tubular exhaust manifold, Tony Law rally-spec system and 5mm sump-shield in Dural. 210bhp is claimed. Transmission is via competition clutch, 280ZX close-ratio gearbox, Nissan Motorsport R200 box, reconditioned propshaft, 4.3:1 cwp, lsd and recently up-rated drive-shafts. Inside are Momo competition seats on alloy sub-frames, Sabelt 4-point harnesses, Fire Fighter plumbed-in 5kg system, 2.5kg hand-held extinguisher, re-flocked dash, period trip, and Peltor intercom. With this fully road legal GT - which started promptly maintaining strong oil pressure with all gears engaging when catalogued - are latest V5C, 5 previous MOTs and current certificate valid until January 2009, MSA Competition Car Log Book and MSA Historic Vehicle Identity Form (both issued June 1999) indicating eligibility in 01 01 68 to 31 12 74 Class 2, instructions for Retrotrip operation, photo-record of back-to-metal shell restoration, sheet detailing work carried out and 2007 Bull Dog Rally photo, when, following the most recent upgrading/refurbishment, an exploratory 2nd in class was achieved. Included, too, are spare alloy wheel/tyre, jack and wheel-brace, whilst various other wheels and spares are available by separate negotiation from the vendor. As you will see at the sale, TRO 111M is not only action-ready (the Tour Brittania perhaps?) but is also in truly stunning cosmetic order.
