eltonking Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 After driving my friend's uncle's 260z i've got my heart set on one, although after only having my license 4 months (i'm only 18) aren't sure if its the best idea... ....yet. Anyway if so, i'm a student on a budget and have the facilities available to do a complete AESTHETIC restoration (interior/exterior etc)-(no good with fiddling around with the mechanics etc) where and how much do you think i'll be up for? Looking for a 5sp manual if anybody has one - melbourne area. cheers Quote
madz Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Yes, 260z's are P plate friendly, so long as they dont have a turbo or V8, however, I dont think P platers are 260z friendly... Cost varies a great deal, look at some of the forum members project threads to get a rough idea. Look on ebay, carsales etc for Zeds but they are getting rather expencive. Quote
Whittie Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I bought my zed at 15. It certainly was a great idea at the time. It's still a good idea, but I did have to buy another car as a runabout. A reuild will be great fun and great pain at times, but the car will likely be off the road for weeks at a time while you slowly work away at it, so I would suggest that you don't own one as an only car. That, and the fuel mine drinks alone was enough to pay for, register, insure and run a 1.5L 4-cylinder just in recovered costs of not driving the zed 400km per week..... I do have a build thread going of where a 'cosmetic' restoration has landed me tho.... Just be aware that an old car is NOT the best first car, is NOT the best only car, is NOT the best daily driver, is NOT cheap!!! But aside from all that, you CAN NOT beat them for fun!! Quote
Riceburner Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I purchased my 240 when I was 21, standard auto.... A lot has changed since, jeez time flys. Many insurance companies would not touch me and the ones that did wanted a fortune. Get some quotes, this could be expensive! Quote
