Azman Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 hey guys just got a quick question, I am currently running 300zx twin turbo front brakes and Z31 rear brakes, My master cylinder has a score in the bore on the front section.... obviously affecting braking power, seeing as I have the upgraded brakes I was wondering how hard it would be to fit the Z32 master cylinder to my S30 rather than rebuilding/sourcing another one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do any of you already have this done? maybe i could steal a looksie? Quote
PZG302 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Before changing master cylinders find out if yours can be sleeved with a stainless steel liner. This would most likely be a cheaper option and one that involves less pain all round. Before you swap M/C check the sizes, they should be the same, 15/16" from memory. The other thing to check is how they bolt on, ie are the mounting bolts vertical or horizontal. I had thios probelm with the M/C in my 240, but as I don't run a booster and had a piece of plate to brace it no problems in drilling the extra mounting holes for the new M/C. The third thing to check is where do the brake lines fit, at the bottom of the cylinder, or at the side. No real problem if location has changed, but you may need to replace a couple of sections of brake lines, just fiddly to do. The size is the most impotant thing to worry about. Go up a size in M/C and you may need legs like Arinie to get the same braking effort, go down in size and you won't have the fluid capicity in the system to fill the calipers and no stopping power. I know this from experience  I run Willwood 4 spot calipers on the front and the 15/16" M/C was borderline and I eneded up having no pedal at all which we couldn't work out why when it worked previously. Went up to a 1" M/C and the brakes work fine, but is taking a while to get used to the extra pressure needed to stop. Quote
