hi all

have after market air fitted to my car 1971 240z

with 2.8 injected motor

when it got hot the other day i turned on the air con and the temp went

well over the 3/4 mark i then fitted a shroud it helped but not enough for me

fitted twin thermo fans today

would you remove the clutch fan or run with the both of them

have hooked up the thermo fans to come on when the air con is turned on

any help would be appreciated

thank you

run both if you can fit them - the clutch fan sucks a little power out of your motor, but can't beat decent cooling for the peace of mind in traffic on a warm day- and aircon puts a massive load on the engine.

I'd personally run the thermos off a temperature switch, so that when your engine temp creeps up just above normal, they cut in by themselves. You can get adjustable switches for that purpose. That way, you have a bit of protection if it warms up sitting in traffic on a cooler day, without having to switch the aircon on.

I'm curious though - sounds like you have already fitted them, and they don't interfere with the clutch fan - where'd you put them? Are they on the front of the radiator, pushing air through, or on the back, sucking through?

i have fitted them on the front of the condensor

it is a twin thermo fans from a 84 honda accord

they fit height and width of the condensor i used

will give them a test tomorrow

having trouble fitting my air pod but i will get a smaller one tomorrow

I ran twin thermos on my L28 and that worked fine. They operated off an adjustable temp switch.

Mine were between the radiator and the engine - theres no way you could also fit the clutch fan in there.

I would suspect that being on the front on the condensor, they would not be all that effective at cooling the engine, as the radiator isnt getting airflow from them?

They will help being on the front, although better if they were mounted directly to the front of the radiator. They'll push cooler air through into the space between the condenser and radiator, where the clutch fan can pick it up from. More effective at slow/stopped speeds than anything, but then again same applies for the most part to any fans.

My rangie has no gas in the aircon, so on a hot day if it starts to warm up in traffic, I click my aircon on so that the electric fans kick in. Does help - and thats cooling an alloy v8!

i have twin thermo's at the front of my radiator....however, they are not working....like, they just never come on...does anyone have any sort of wirign diagram for hooking them up so i can run through and check it all...i'm pretty dodgy at elecrtics...

Well, I'm guessing they are aftermarket, unless you have a 280zx, in which case I dunno if they came with thermos or not. So a wiring diagram is useless to you. If you have aircon, they may be wired to that, try having the car running with the aircon on full bore and see if they kick in then.

Beyond that, just follow the wires coming out of them, and see what they go to. Basically, they should go back to a relay. Then you need to follow the trigger circuit of the relay and see what operates them.

However, who knows how they've been wired up - depends on the intelligence of the person doing the wiring.
