sco_aus Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 Hey guys. Just recently took the plunge into doing a cut and shut on my RB25DET intake manifold. For those that don't know, a cut and shut is when you cut the throttle body and flange off the plenum, weld it up, cut a hole in the front of the manifold and reweld the flange back on, thus giving you a forward facing throttle body as the original pointed over the top of the engine. In the end it took off around 1m of intercooler piping. the difference it made to the response of the turbo was awsome and a much smoother power delivery made it so worth while. So far the only problem i have occurred is that when running the car cold, it will miss fire quite bad, but Im pretty sure it is because of the cold start is just sucking filtered air from the atmosphere instead of the intake. Has anyone got any other ideas? I also think the computer is still slowly adapting to the change? I think i have gone on for long enough. Cheers Scott Quote
Azon Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 1m less of piping - wow thats a great improvement! What computer are you using with the engine? I really dont see why a computer would try to readjust in any case, as this modification should not affect the amount of air coming in drastically; and if it were to readjust, the whole process will be almost instant anyway. sco_aus Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Took some pics of the cut and shut last week. I'm currently running stock computer, but have a power FC being tuned at the end of the month. P.S Yes that used to be the cross over pipe coming off the manifold (could keep the stock BOV flange). Quote
Natez Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 id say its just teh stock computer running funny, did you reset the stock computer at all... but taking off the battery etc.... unless your sensor is out of wack, id just wait for the fc to get tuned and hopefully that will fix it, with a decent cold start tune... thehelix112 Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 On a side note. They look suspiciously like Koni adj camber plates and upper strut tops. Was it hard to get a full range of movement on those slotted holes? Dave Quote
sco_aus Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Yeh I did the computer reset, nothing. I was looking on Skylines Australia and a lot of people get a missfire when they are accelerating due to the seam on the rubber on the coils splitting and the spark jumps to the head, so maybe mine has gotten bad. I ordered some splitfire coils anyway for reliability so heres hoping, but most mechanics i talk to reckon its in the ignition side of things. The camber tops get full adjustment and easily. It wouldnt surprise me if they are copys, T3 claim they make them themselves though, but good none the less. Quote
sco_aus Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 I finally got my car back from tuning, now have a Power FC, Splitfire coils, iridium sparkies, dual stage Turbosmart boost controller, highflowed steel turbine stock turbo, 3 inch exhaust, k&n intake, front mount and the cut and shut has produced 249.5 rwkw at 14psi. I took it for a good burn last night here in Canberra and with the new 2 way slippy i can actually get the power to the ground. All round the setup is really reliable. Im going to time the 0-100 and 1/4 mile times tonight.  Quote
