chev z Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 G'day guys , this is my first posting .I have a 260 2+2 that I raced[?] for the first time at the last Winton fun day, I am considering a LSD , mini spool or diff weld option for my car.The Z has a 4.3lt chev v6 motor, T5 trans and fully adjustable race suspension[ motor stock about 170rwhp] Your thoughts and ideas would be appreciated...chev z.......P.S very new to this sport Quote
Scando Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I run a welded diff and it does the job ok but causes a little understeer into tight corners at times. If you go with this option then you may have to do some minor suspension adjustments to get the car to turn in. an LSD will give you the best handling but is the most expensive option. Quote
sco_aus Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I run a Cusco 2 way mechanical diff from a R33 Skyline (29 spline count from memory). It took a little bit of machining to get it in, but that was basicaly because of the retaining rings inside the diff not quite working. It works great and suites my driving style, however, there are times I wish i went for a 1.5 way. The difference being that a 2 way is working 100% both acceleration and deceleration, where as a 1.5 way works 100% on acceleration, but 50% on deceleration giving better turn in. It is true that a locked diff is the cheapest option and as long as the car isnt a daily driver, then it would be fine, but i would recomend LSD (probably a viscous type eg. standard diffs in most sports cars and some 4wds) for daily driving aswell. There are quite a few of them for sale, even a couple on ozdat etc, so shop around and see what prices you can come up with. Scott Quote
Scando Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 That's one thing I forgot to mention. If you're using the car for track days then don't get a viscous LSD. They overheat and stop working when you punish them too hard. Make sure you get a mechanical one if you go for the LSD option. Quote
