G'day, just after a little bit of advise on how to remove the quarter window weather stripping from one Z and installing it into another. Below I have attached two images, the first is the donor and the second is the recipient. There are two parts I am interested in transferring, one being the vertical piece on the door frame and the second being the rubber bit (technical term apparently) that goes around the quarter window. The vertical piece looks easy enough, just unscrew and then screw on. The rubber bit is what I am really concerned with. Car I just lever it off with something, you know, like a lever?

On a side note, after looking a these pics (which were taken using a flash) it's amazing how dirty my car is and how faded my seat belts are. Is there a good technique for seatbelt removal and dying?

It's probably just as easy to completely remove your quarter window to do it. It's only 2 screws above your door latch, 2 at the top below your drip rail, then the 2 for the latch/opener. This way you won't have to try to push the seal down next to the window which might be a bit tight. The seal is just a pinch fit over the metal and pulls straight up.

Thank you, this is the practical advise that I was looking for. Yeah the quarter window itself is real easy to remove and will make taking off the weather stripping so much easier, cheers.

I have to do this tonite actually........don't you just lift up the seals from the inside and slowly push the window out?

From the inside out you say? Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

Well I removed it today.

Taking out the window was good advise, and easy too. Removing the weatherstripping from the inside out with bare hands also worked, but revealed that adhesive was used in the installation. So now I need to work out what type of glue is appropriate before I do the install. It looks to be quite rubbery like a silicone type of joby.
