I have been quoted an astronomical price (up here in the NT) for bodywork, panel beating, media blasting etc, up to and from between $10,000 to $15,000!

I have posted a couple of threads regarding starting a project car! Could anyone please give a guide to what I should be paying (dependent I know on the condition of the car/bodyhell)?

Could anyone recommend a good bodyshop down south, which might be a better option?

I am also looking for a good engine shop, thank you

A friend recently had his Coupe Borgward sprayed, which included blasting, some rust repair, panel work and the final spray.  It cost him $10k.  I saw the photos of the work in progress and the job was top notch.  So that figure you have been given is probably comparable.  I got mine sprayed for about $1.5k, but then my dad and I did ALL the prep work, so the guys that sprayed only had to paint and polish.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,

I restored my Zed in 1992, bare metal repaint and rust fixed for $2.5K and just did it again earlier this year for $10K !

$10K is not a lot of $$$ these days, I spent $10k on a complete bare metal repaint, rust repairs and panel realignment...... yaddah yaddah.............like anything ...you get what you pay for.

The question you have to ask your self is what standard do you want your Zed to be finished at? Concourse with no rust and straight panels, Neat and clean or just a quick spray over? The first would be 10-15K from a top panel beaters place. Down to 2K for a half assed job. But for concourse finish I would say 10K minimum. I know I paid more than that for mine.

If it's done properly the first time it shouldn't have to be done again. Just keep an eye on the rust spots when they take it back to bare metal and make sure any cancer is cut out properly so it won't reoccur. Then rust proof the inside of the gurds with some stone gurd as well. Fish oil inside the doors etc and you should be good to go. Make sure you drop in on the body works person at least weekly to make sure he keeps moving on the car otherwise some of them don't care if it drags out past 6 months which is crazy. But I hear of this happenning a bit. Keep them honest, agree on a time frame and you should be right.

Good luck.

Transfer to 2CAV and forget your money worries :D jk

I had a little bit of work done at the panel beaters/painters near "AJ" towers in the city near the big fuel depot thing.  They seemed to be pretty good and didnt cost the earth. Couldnt tell you the name of it though.  But it wasnt the one right near the Bridge Toyota.

Hope that makes sense :P

sitting on stands in my garage awaiting a gasket so i can unleash hell on it and get it going in the next week or so.  Cant bloody wait.  I would love to get it going on new years, just to make it exactly 1 year off the road and back going so much harder, but before then would be good too.
