Hi everyone,

I'm looking at doing an LS1 V8 conversion and I'm very serious about doing it. I'm from Vic and I own a 75 260z, I've been in contact with a VASS approved engineer in Eltham who believes he can get it through vic roads (with a bit of reinforcement, new seatbelts and front vented rotors). At this stage I'm only looking into it and gathering information.

I've already done the rear disc conversion with an one inch master cylinder so I'm not worried about the brakes (& I planned on chucking hilux calipers on the front anyway), seatbelts are an easy replacement.

I'm unsure of how much reinforcing will need to be done, at  the end of the day it'll be up to the bloke engineering it. But if anyone has any idea about what should and can be done for a V8, I'm very interested to know.

At this stage I've been looking into welding and installing bad dog frame rails as well as installing rear and front strut tower bars.

Has anyone done this conversion? & more to the point has anyone completed this conversion recently in Victoria? I'm open to suggestions about any other reinforcing I may need to consider.

Also any information on extras I'm gonna need for the engine conversion would be good. Besides obvious things like custom tailshaft, new radiator etc.

Thanks.

I just finished a 302 Cleveland Conversion fitted to a 2+2 in Vic. Used solid rotors on the front with hilux calipers, R31 Rears and a proportioning valve. I extended the chassis rails to the rear and that was it for strenghening. Brakes pulled a .93 negative G's on the enginneering test which a pass is .8 then on the roadworthy it pulled a max of 1.47 Negative G's. Tailshaft was reworked by a local firm. Is yours a 2 seater? 1100 Kilos means you can only fit up to 4.4 litre capacity.

Thanks Mark by the way good r31 turtorial i did your the R31 rear conversion.

The bloke said that as mines a 2+2 and a 75 model that it can be sent through on the amercian stats (the 75 z was branded a 280z in america and the weight class of a 280z is 1.3 tonne so the LS1 will pass fine).
