Pedro Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Ok; gauge is waving about (oil pressure) and temp is doing zero. Did test; ignition "On" position. test 1: ground temp sensor wire (yellow), gauge does nothing. reconnect wire test 2: ground oil pressure sender unit wire. gauge does nothing Is the conclusion that myTemp-oil pressure gauge is stuffed? If yes does anyone have a working spare i could buy? (note this is a 12/75 model and there is two types of gauge early and late, i have early i know this as i have a later one with a different plug) driving around not knowing these 2 things scares the be-jesus out of me. many thanks, Peter Quote
Six_Shooter Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 It could be a problem with the wires feeding the gauge, such as an ignition feed. Since you say you have a spare gauge, you can swap the harnesses betweem them. Electrically the gauges are same for the run of the S30, exceptions being the tach and the obvious difference of ammeter and voltmeter. Quote
Pedro Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 didnt want to solder a new connector on - my hack soldering is not worthy of getting it done. I dont want to think about tracing the wires. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 You shouldn't need to do any soldering, just remove some nuts to swap the short harness on the back of the gauges. Quote
Pedro Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 right did not know you could do that - thought wheer the wires met the gauge they were hard wired in. Quote
Pedro Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 ok. half way there. got temperature back (moved the loom from one gauge to the other) no oil pressure Recently i replaced a 10 year old OEM oil pressure sender unit with one of the cheap ones from supercrap auto. I think the next obvious step is to buy a new OEM oil pressure sender unit. It must be the 3 month old cheap unit (i am thinking). Quote
