R200 LSD Ratio change
webbered six replied to webbered six's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
Thanks to all who gave me the necessary info, much appreciated and now I'm a little more knowledgable on the crown & pinion stuff. I pulled my diff tonight saving myself $180 and tomorrow I pick up the 3.54 260z open diff with stub flanges, you know those little shaft things that go into the diff and attach to the half shafts. I'll end up selling my 3.94 crown & pinion which will in turn will almost pay for the diff. Again thanks Ricky -
R200 LSD Ratio change

Simon unfortunately we're about 4000k's apart, I'm in the west. What did you have in mind anyway. Stewart wilkinson ms was keen to do some sought of swap. Tomorrow I'll talk to a diff specialist and find out associated costs. Has anyone had this work performed and if so what price was attached to it roughly? -
R200 LSD Ratio change
webbered six replied to webbered six's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
So firstly I'd better open up the diff and see what size bolt, 10 or 12mm. I've read that at about 1984 the DR30 R200 LSD changed sizes and I have no idea what year it's from. Can anyone confirm that the 260z didn't have 3.5 something gear ratio. Currently at 100 kph I'm reving at 3200 rpm. What do you reckon the 3.7 would bring it down to, keeping in mind that I currently have 3.94? -
R200 LSD Ratio change
webbered six replied to webbered six's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
Thanks Mr Camo, can this crown and pinion come from an open centre diff or does it also have to be from a R200 LSD. Ricky -
Now i have been reading through countless threads on this topic and from what I gather this shouldn"t be too hard. All i want to know is exactly what part or parts do I need. I Have a DR30 skyline 3.9 LSD which was good with my L6 but not so good with the 308 V8. I really need to go to 3.5. I'm thinking I can use whatever the part is called out of the 260z auto. Is it just the one gear whatever part I need to change my ratio? I have researched but all the diff parts and so forth are a bit bewildering. Excuse my ignorance. Cheers Ricky

Sold my L28 and webers, now have this 308 in there. Will turn the key next week. Supra five speed, 308 and 2-1 exhaust. Why a 308? it was the easiest option and it really has been an easy swap. It fits beautifully without a lot of messin around and sits low and weight is further back also it'll be something different, C210 V8, I like it.

Thanks for your submissions, and confirming what i thought might be possible. It may take a bit of working to mount it but at least I can still use my current wiring connections. Again thanks. Attached is a pic of car since painted

I've begun the 308 transplant into my C210 Coupe. Is there any reason I have to run the 308 alternator. Physically the L series( 280z) is the same size and it's still running all the same equipment but being spun by a different motor. Is this the correct way of looking at it? Ricky. I can make it fit.

SOLD Pending payment to a chap in Busselton here in WA. Thanks for looking, if you did.

I actually applied to the Dept of Infrastructure here in W.A to put a 308 in it and I was given the green light and a list of things that had to be adhered to, but nothing to hard. If I go turbo it'll be RB30et not DET. The ET will have sufficient power for my neeeds.

The dipstick enters through the sump and not through the block. I believe the ooriginal dipstick entry point has just been pinched together to seal it. So just need sump and original pickup which I may have. I have thought about turbo but I have a hunch my head doesn't have the notches and finding turbo gear aint so easy unless someone has a complete turbo setup in exchange for a weber set up. It's comments like that that start me wavering and rethinking my options, DAMN YOU MR CAMO

Yeah fufu, it's a shame my friends priorities also changed. So here I am again. Had a quote done up today to post engine on pallet to melbourne. $215 with Perth Freightlines, not a bad price at all.

I've decided to go RB30 and so now I'm selling my L28 and triple 45 weber set up. A few details. Firstly the motor came from Nismo with webers and 3.0l bore. I can put you in touch with the person who imported it from Nismo. Motor recently (100k's ago) had a brand new camshaft from Clive Cams put in by Daryll Penley formerly of Automotive Tuning Centre in Welshpool. Daryl has serviced this motor over the past 10 years. The motor was dynoed after and produced 170hp@the wheels. The motor is stock apart from bore and cam. I've run it down the 1/4 mile and best time was 15.8 but my Datto weighs 1270kg and I'm not the best racer. The motor has a stock N42 head, N42 block bored to 3.0L from Nismo. The triple inlet manifold is from East Beer Japan, has Jap writing on it. The webers have not been touched since imported and they are remarkable, both condition wise and ability to stay in tune. I'm only selling because I aim to have above 230 hp@tw and turbo for me is the way to go. If your interested please call me, I'm looking for offers around $2200. Come and have a drive and listen, you'll be impressed I'm sure. Great upgrade for a Z. Ph 9581 8997

Will post a pic of mounts tomorrow. My car is being painted currently, but I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow.

I know the RB30 sump doesn't fit your Zs', but it does on my C210 Skyline.Do the RB30 mounts match up to the L series or is there an adaptor required from CRS

Also after reading the L6 cylinder head article, there was an attachment about an N42 cylinder head performance upgrade. A person in that article speaks of a N42 with no FI notches. My engine came from Nismo, it wasn't in a car here in Aus and I highly suspect from memory that it didn't have FI notches. If so can the notches be machined in.

Thanks for answering my question. Reason I ask is I'm contenplating going down the turbo road with my N42/N42 set up for more HP. With my 3.0ltr bore and triple 45 webers, mostly stock engine apart from 72degree cam, I'm making approx 170hp @tw. 1/4 mile time 15.878. My Datto Skyline weighs 1260kg, probably heavier since the R200 went in. I'm wanting about 230HP @tw, which is asking a lot from the N/A I think, prove me wrong please. So if this figure is possible from the N/A, from the money aspect, is it better or cheaper to turbo the motor I have now or build up the N/A. I've seen stroker kits and they aint cheap and keeping in mind I can sell the triple set up to fund turbo parts. I know with turboing you can spend truck loads on turbos' and ECUs'. Also I'd have to lower my comp as it's around 9-10. Has anyone done the conversion from N/A to turbo and remember what cost were incurred. Appreciate your thoughts on this bogggling decision. Rick

Wondering if all N42 heads have notches for injection. Without pulling the manifold I guess there's no way of telling?
