Wangan Midnight

Just out of interest has anyone got or seen the movie Wangan Midnight???

 

That is of course if there was a movie produced i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that there is... Probably no chance of finding it dubbed or with subtitles though haha...

 

I've been looking for a link or torrent for it but haven't been successful...

The story gets its roots from the actual street racing that occurs on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway, one stretch of which is known as the "Wangan", literally meaning "bay side" (although it is generally used to refer to the freeway), the longest, straightest road in the entire country. Of course, there's also lots of traffic to contend with, including a fair number of heavy trucks. Because of this, the action is inherently hazardous, and wrecks are common. Blown engines are also a frequent hazard, especially with the extreme-high power engines.

 

One day, Akio Asakura, a third year high school student, is driving his Fairlady Z (Z31) and is challenged by Tatsuya Shima, a doctor, in his black Porsche 964 Turbo (nicknamed the "BlackBird"). With a friend in the passenger seat and two girls in the back, Akio pitifully tries to win, but is defeated. Determined to become faster, he goes to the junkyard to buy parts for his car, when he sees a pristine, unscratched midnight blue Fairlady Z (S30) in the junkyard. Intrigued as to why such a machine is about to be junked, he buys it. He soon finds that the car is unnaturally fast due to a tuned L28 engine, bored and stroked to 3.1 liters combined with twin turbos, which produces 620bhp. He also finds that all of the car's previous owners had unfortunate accidents in it, starting with the first owner's death. All but one of the Z's subsequent owners have died as a result of trying to control its power. The manga follows Akio's various encounters, though the central plot revolves around his constant battle with the BlackBird for superiority.

I've got it on my computer, but its all in Japanese. It also doesn't really follow the manga storyline as you've posted there too closely, from what I can see.... I don't think its ever been subbed or dubbed.... There is another thread somewhere on here about it too, which has a link but its dead - I'm sure it would be elsewhere on the net though, otherwise I could probably seed it for you. I also have the manga in pdf format....

Still worth watching if you are a Z nut, event though you can only understand 2 or 3 words of it.

I know on youtube they have a trailer for the live action move (as the japanese call it).

 

Better news is that the team that made the initial d anime are going to remake the old midnight wangan. It starts airing in may so my mate told me.

 

Check out highway speed star it has a 280zx like the one at tokyo show in it.

From what I can gather there are 4 live action Wangan midnight movies.

 

I've only ever seen the first one, but you can buy the VHS videos from Japan (for aroound 15800 yen approx $160 each :shock: ). But they are in Japanese and no subtitles. I dont think they have ever been released on DVD.

 

I recon we start a partition to SBS to show the movies on TV, that way they will translate them, and someone can record them of Digital TV

Yeah, some of the fansubs are pretty dodgy, but there are a few guys who usually do a pretty good job... LiveEvil and IDE come to mind, among some others.

Yeah, when they started talking about the cars "Quakeproof" ... it was all down hill from there.

I'm am writing to you to request that you show a cult movie from Japan called "Wangan Midnight". It was released in 1993 and tells the story of Akio who buys a wrecked sports car (Nissan S30) from a wreckers yard.

 

It's based on the manga of the same name, and is soon to be produced as anime by the same company that produced the Initial D anime.

 

There are alot of Nissan S30 (aka Datsun 240z/260z) fans that would love to see the original "live action" movie here in Australia.

 

Is there any chance of you being able to show the movie?

Ok, I'm starting a fansub project, I doubt sbs will ever show the movie, as the people that own it wont even release it on DVD.
