i've noticed while driving slowly and turning to full lock that there is a point at where it kind of automatically turns tighter, if that makes sense. Is this what the bump steer spacers fix?

Here is a very simple explanation of bump steer....

 

Bump Steer

Refers to changes in wheel alignment (toe, camber and caster) as the wheel moves through the suspension range. Wheel alignment is set with the car stationary, so bump steer affects must be properly considered to ensure that suspension movement does not cause adverse changes in handling or grip.

 

Basically as the vehicle moves over bumps the geometry of the front changes as the wheels go up and down. Bump steer is the effect of these changes affecting the wheels in such a way that they steer the car.

 

Again, this is a very simple explanation of what bump steer is. Basically it's a bad thing that you want to minimise.
