vlad Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Guys, i've got a question about L28. why do people go for L28 swaps? everywhere i can find, it says that L28 has only got 140hp, but l24 is 160. so whats the go here? or am i missing something here? by the way, my new 240Z that i just bought has L28 in it, so im trying to figure out it's hp as well. cheers, Vlad Quote
PZG302 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I'm pretty sure the system to measure horsepower was changed around this time which would account for the difference. I can put up the Japanese specs for the FIA homologation power levels when I'm at work on Monday if you like, the power ratings increase from the L24 to the L28 Quote
vlad Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 yeah, that'd be good, because im a bit confused. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 The L24 was rated at 151hp, not 160. and that was at the flywheel with no fan, waterpump, alternator etc. Just the bare engine on a bench dyno, with cooling and electrics supplied externally. The L26 was rated about 160hp in the same way. With the L28, the way they measured HP changed, in that all the extra bits (alt, fan etc) had to be on the engine. It was about 135BHP You can get more power from a 2.8 litre engine than you can with a 2.4. Its all about cubic inches. Quote
VertexZ Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 yes, change from gross to net hp more cc's is better, plus the cooling system is a bit better. 260Z is 121kw (2.6 twin carb), 280zx is 103kw (2.8 injected). I would guess the 260Z motor would be about 90kw at the fly (net kw) Quote
vlad Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 thanks guys! what about a carb'd L28? what would that be rated at? cheers, Vlad Quote
