Alan @HS30-H is the only person I know who had these reproduced in 15" in the past and I get the impression he's not wanting to get into that again, given costs etc..

Wasn't actually me who led/financed the project, but I was peripherally involved with it.

Costs were huge. The patterns, castings and machining (and testing, heat-treating and coating) were all done in the UK by a motorsports-specialist casting/forging company, and that ain't cheap.

The latest run of replicas being sold in Japan by M-Speed are made outside Japan, so their overhead costs are much lower. They are slightly different than the originals, and are made from Aluminium alloy rather than Magnesium.

So is anyone likely to make a set of these in 8x15 ?

No idea.

I received mine on Friday. They look great.

I'm not an expert on wheel manufacturing but the quality seems very high also.

By some stroke of luck, they clear my brakes, so at this stage it's unlikely I'll sell them (sorry Gav!).

I'll unpack properly and get some better pics when I have some time.

This is a bit of an old thread nowadays, but I was reading it yesterday and wondered if the wheel studs were replaced with longer ones to allow secure fastening of the rims.

Lovely rims BTW, I applaud your decision to go with the period 14x7 size, not the common modern 'ginormous' sizings.

Datsunrally,

Longer wheel studs are easily found, like Kameari or Nismo, in differing lengths;

Yes, you're right, I have them on my (non-Z) car.

To my eye the orange Z with the works replica wheels needed some too. Standard studs are generally made for thin steel wheels, so I'm interested to know if (a year later) the car ended up with them. Just wonderin'…

Hi Jeff,

No replacement wheel studs were needed for these wheels. The offset is -16 from memory so they sit out in the guard nicely as they come, and the hub face is no thicker than a normal alloy wheel.

If you did want longer studs for whatever reason (spacers etc) you could go for rear studs from a 240z/260z which I think add around 10mm... or there are a few other options around if you wanted even more.

Cheers,
James

Hi James,

Good to hear the Kobe Seiko wheels didn't require longer studs, thanks also for the info regarding the longer studs on the rear of the 240Z/260Z, I didn't know that.

Any chance of a photo of your car sitting on those lovely wheels?

Cheers,

Jeff

James, how did you find sourcing rubber for 14" wheels? What tyres did you go with?

By the way, what brakes are you running?

Not easy! Very few tyres in a decent compound available for less than drug money. I went with Falken RT615K+ in 195/60 which are not quite as tall as I'd like but because the car sits low I'm reasonably happy with the look.

Fronts are an R32 caliper on Lindsay's (zshop) custom disc, rears are R31 disc conversion.

I can recommend the re-issue ADVAN (Yokohama) HF Type-D in 195/70-14.

Here they are on a set of genuine 432 type Kobe Seikos, but I reckon the size will happily stretch the extra inch to work on the 7J Kobe Seiko Works Rally Mag replicas:

These look great Alan, thanks for the tip. Did you source from Japan or a local supplier?

When originally announced, it seemed that they would be limited to the Japanese domestic market. But after I think something like a year or more Yokohama took the decision to release them in Europe (I think possibly limited release in North America too?). In my local case, Yokohama UK are stocking them:

If my memory serves me right (from what someone on Classizcars.com said) , about 1 million Yen for a set of Kobe Seiko genuine Z432 wheels is about the current rate in Japan. That is about $13,000.

Well, some of that 'discussion' made for heavy reading.

The word unscrupulous comes to mind. Others may just jump in and take advantage of the price.
