dat2kman Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Start the bucket list with "great driving roads of Australia" there has to be a top ten in each state. Eg QLD Hampton to Esk Atherton tablelands down by Mt Bartle Freer to Cairns The gap MtNebo MtGloriousWivenhoe dam Cmon, let's add a few more from each state in Aus!! Greg, Nurburgring is absolutely amazing, you've done Bathurst, just think from Griffins bend ( top of mountain straight) to Forrest's Elbow, but 23 kilometers long!!! aND the roads all through Germany's Black Forest(Schwarzwald) are just so fantastic as well! PeterAllen Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I have driven in many parts of the world and while it was all a long time ago now I think the strategy regarding a make/model of car I used is still relevant. Buy a 'world car'. In my case they were always a VW Kombi simply because parts were available everywhere. I met so many people who where stuck in some remote place, sometimes for weeks, waiting for a wheel bearing or rotor button to arrive for their particular car/van. These days it's probably a Toyota I would choose, and a Hilux at that. One more bit of advice - DO IT. The memories and some of the friends you make will last a lifetime. Quote
DatPilot Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 What about the stages of Targa Tasmania! (nearly overseas) Where I learnt to drive! (and not to drive haha) Theres a road through some National Park south of Syd which is fairly epic too Quote
Paulo Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I was at the WRC in Coffs Harbour, looking at the roll on- roll off crates of cars, gear and life of the elite. Then I focused on the older category and replica's, and thoughts turned to the exploits of Evan Green, P76's and days gone by. Yes, it may be difficult to plan for the unexpected, but the Cold War is over and as has been said, the memories will last our live's out. Good idea about the HiLux, maybe a documentary - a Zed would be perfect(!). Would Asia Pacific rally contacts be a first start to getting the ground logistic's sorted? This is definitely a long term bucket plan, just needs old heads and the wisdom of the great to get it going. Paulo Quote
zedrally Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Paris to Peking anyone? I had a feeling that a London-Sydney was in the planning stage, but can't find the source that I (thought) read. Quote

aussie240z Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Sounds like a good one, now all i need is some deep pocketed sponsors..... Might have to start working on that. A 240Z should fit very nicely. Quote
