Anyone in Vic no where to get a road worthy?

Hi I drove my Zed to work yesterday and some prick of a cop decided to pull me over for nothing. Sure enough he said the rear tyres weren't road worthy when they are only half worn and rally OK. So he proceeded to tick the box for me to get a full road worthy certificate to take to the RTA. Good on him. Anyway my car is in pretty good shape and should pass. But I was wondering if anyone in Melbourne knew of a good place to take it to get a Road Worthy. Preferably someone who isn't that strict if you know what I mean. I can't be bothered with some D.Head telling me my break pads are 1mm past minimum or something like that. Thanks for the info. Can PM me if you know of a good dodgy brothers who will pass it no problems. Cheers

PS nearly over it and put the car up for sale. Ha  :-\

Ha well that's a coincidence then. Yeah the "sharp object" ticked the box to get a road worthy certificate before taking it down to the RTA. Problem is a few places are closed and I can only drive it for 7 days, so I have till next Tuesday. I guess the only consilation was that I wasn't speeding so no fines or points on that score.

Just done for height and tyres. Fixed the height last night by winding up the adj suspension and new rear tyres going on today. Other than that the car is pretty good. Let me know if you have a contact for the RWC. Much appreciated. Regards.

Why did he pull you over Craig? I would understand if you were doing something silly, but pulling you over and deciding to give you a yellow ticket just for the sake of doing so is pretty rough.

I mean there is a difference between a guy taking his pride and joy out and is a genuine enthusiast with a classic vehicle and your typical "hoon" who was doing something silly to get pulled over.

Luckily in my 240z I've never been hassled, but this is also why I like the idea of a warm L28, you can get away with the "stock look" :).

I copped the same thing earlier this year as posted on this site. Most coppers have become real jerks not really knowing what they are talking about.Have been told that the labour govt is a little hard up for cash and have told cops to to go on a spree to raise revenue.Just an example went to a car show at knox which some mates run every month. All the people there are car enthusiasts, but the cops dont care anymore defecting many cars, fines for bull sht mods on cars. They know we dont drive these cars everyday and sure some cars are highly modified, but we arent kids in commodores doing burnouts in trafficThis show has been going for many years without incident raising money for charity, but they will ruin it for everybody. Now im scared to drive my car because of the hassle, but we still live in a free country so Im still going to!

everyone knows knox cops suk balls..... they tried dickin me so many times just about every time knox car cruze is on they hide and wait but with a group like that they go for the obvious like vn 5ltrs 20mm off the deck.. like der ya going down .....  ::)

the key is we are on their roads! they are a gang ! without a doubt its there domain if they say jump its easier if you say how high ... cause if you say you go jump... they will just make life harder... ive been pulled up so many times and the best way is to be on their side.... suks but a licence is a privilege not a right

Very true but even being nice doesnt seem to help but aggrevating them does make it worse as I found out 20years ago.Having a license may be a privilege as you say,but driving your pride and joy is becoming like playing russian roulette these days.Get pulled over more than likely be prepared to cop something. Its the cat and mouse theory.14years owned my dat never pulled over.2009 pulled over 3 times one epa,one canary and one license check. One out of threes not bad I spose.I dont take it personally but it can be annoying as you get older especially if you have your wife and kid in the car.

yer i guess at that stage they should be leavin you alone and going for the P taged cars more.... it has been more and more targting ,ive seen it to since i first got my licence till now i think its maybe due to the ease of getting horse power when i got my first car i needed a patch of oil on the road to get a tyre going now any 3 grand dunny door will light em up .... so every one who has power now thinks they can drive like robby gordon or ken block ... hence the hoon law it sucks but the guy who lights em up off the lights is making it harder for everyone ...... and its me bahahahaha

Weve all got to have fun sometimes and lighting them up is a priviledge too. Isnt that written somewhere in the license form on the back of the corn flakes pack? That may be my new line next time  I get pulled over.Power skids rule!

Yeah I have to agree with your comments guys. At 44 years old (gee that sounds old) and spent a fortune on my car I am a little annoyed that the stupid cop had the gaul to pick what he did. Like you say, maybe for the young guys. It was obvious I hardly drive the car (Partly for this reason) and it's not like I was driving dangerously. Like you say revenue raising. Like I heard it's easier to fine us than go out and get a thug, rapist or drunk off the street as there is too much paperwork involved. So the knifings maiming, bashing's  are up, but don't worry we got a bloke to get a road worthy on his car. Should keep him off the road for a week. And that my friends is why the night club bashings and rapping will continue. Sure the government will talk there usual spin but the facts don't lie.

I am hopefully getting a RWC tomorrow from some place? Hopefully. So thanks for the offer Mayhem & Dat392. I will see how I go and contact you if I this contact doesn't work out. Mind you there is virtually nothing wrong with the car. But is does look nice raised 50mm! NOT.  ;)

It is probably a topic for a seperate thread, but I thought it was relevant.

Get you car on CH Plates Craig for when the new scheme comes in this year.

Attached is the discussion paper from Vicroads:

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/C6BA43FA-C317-4A23-AB40-CAA0906A7815/0/VicCarClubBrochure_WEB.pdf

they are asking for feedback on it at the moment.

The relevance being that you can drive your car upto 90 days a year when ever you like.  It is administered by the car club so that you don't need to go get a RWC or through vicroads, and I can't see that the police will have any ability to issue dodgy canaries on club plated cars.

The only downside being you lose your personalised plates.

cheers

Bruce

You still need a RWC to get the club plates as far as I'm aware (unless it falls into a hotrod category), and the cars are SUPPOSED to be roadworthy condition, so technically speaking you could probably still get defected on club plates if they chose to.....

There is an option to have a 'club scrutineer' write a notice to say that your car is safe, but I don't know which clubs, if any, actually have such a scrutineer in place.  The Alfa club definitely takes the approach of making you get a roadworthy, so that no-one has the responsibility of declaring a vehicle safe and getting reamed for a car coming back deemed unsafe....

Hmm interesting Bruce. Just had a breif read. If it worked per your comments I would be in like a flash. But it would appear they are still disputing or discussing the system or road worthyness. Some how I can't see a car on the road with out a RWC. Otherwise all hell would break out. And of course the cops would lose control which would never happen. Some how I think the RTA will always maintain control of the cars condition and ability to be on the road. Otherwise dodgy paperwork would be everywhere between Clubs.

Interesting subject though.

Sadly the police can still issue you with a canary if they choose to, with 'H' plates.

Zeddophile, my local car club - Gippsland Car Club 'Sporting Register' has a delegated 'inspector' in the club (who is actually a specialist Porsche mechanic) that is able to sign off on the 'roadworthy condition' of a vehicle that is to go on 'H' plates. So no RWC required.

He is FAR more understanding on the rules & idiosyncrasies of classic vehicles, than any dumbarse RW mechanic I've ever met...

So yes, they do exist :)

Being the gippsland car club, and not tied to any one make of car, I guess that means that they'll sign off on any model of car too.  Good to know...  I suspect some of the other car clubs may also have such a scrutineer, but was thinking that if it were for example the BMW club, that they'd only sign off on BMWs...

Sounds like you've had first hand experience or knowledge of someone being defected on club plates there too, which unfortunately confirms my other thought.
