Chipp
HI All While I had my dash out swapping in my reskined dash I thought I would check and repair all of my guages. I noted that my clock wasnt working. (Even in my second Zed). I undersand that most of the time they just need a clean and lubricate. I had a look inside but after investiagation it looks like one of the pendulums is missalligned as one end appears to be popped out of its mount. I have noted both of my clocks have the same problem. Iam after some advice on options to get these fixed and whether it is worth it? Thanks in advance Chipp
Administrators gav240z Posted January 7 Administrators Share Posted January 7 You can try fix the original mechanism, but in my experience once it was back in the car (after having it on a test bench) it stopped working again. And it's pain the butt to get in and out again. The original mechanism clogs with dust/dirt (doesn't take much) to stop the gears moving and it's reliable long term. The best repair is to get hold of a later 280zx era clock with Quartz movement in it and install that in the 240z Jeco clock (with 240z face etc..) and then hope that performs better. I had a few clocks done this way and restored by Ron at Zclocks.com, the only problem is that ZX's and their analog clocks are getting harder to source these days. Ron at Zclocks.com was looking for an alternative mechanism to replace the ZX ones to repair Jeco clocks and may have found something, it's been a couple of years since I talked to him. Is it worth having a working clock? In my opinion absolutely, I hate gauges that don't work! OdinZ
