Hi folks,

Just a heads up I've run some updates including upgrading to the newest version of PHP. Overall this should improve the user experience but let me know if anything is not behaving correctly post upgrade?

Thanks,
Gavin.

I've had reports that email notifications have stopped working. Can anyone else confirm if they are not getting emails for thread replies etc..?

Did you get this email reply? Just changed something in Cpanel (was attempting to remove spam emails via email fitlers).

I spent some time trying to diagnose this, but no such joy yet. I have a feeling phpmail is a problem since I updated to PHP 8.0+

I might see if the hosting company can offer some help with troubelshooting.

Update on this, I'm currently contemplating moving away from our hosting company who I've been with for nearly 15 years! They put their rates up and with USD vs AUD$ exchange range hosting is now costing around $430 per month!

So I'm contemplating moving to Invision Power Hosted Solution - which means I wouldn't need to manually run periodic updates and  think will save some money on hosting with it. I'm pretty sure things like the emails not being received would also get fixed in that move. Which I haven't had a chance to dig further into yet.

Do what you have to do.

Did you guys get any email notifications this time?

Hi folks,

Just an update. I've had to cut back on the cost of hosting. It was getting up to $440 per month. Which is just not sustainable, given the site isn't as busy these days and I've had less time to post here myself.

Talking with the hosting company I've downgraded the plan, which means the site may be slower than before but the cost is about $100 AUD per month.

Much more sustainable. I'm working on some fine tuning to help improve the site and server performance.

Also some emails have been hitting spam filters. I'm doing my best to resolve this.

Caching is sort of resolved, but not 100% because the hosting company doesn't support a package called redis which is used for improved caching performance.

I'm contemplating moving hosts. Since it may improve the overall site performance. But it still won't be hosted in Australia. Which would be nice to bring hosting onshore for lower latency.

The good news is I managed to update to the latest software version after a few hiccups earlier.
